Is this Instagram's most naked user? Yoga enthusiast finds a way around the photo-sharing app's strict no-nudity rule by baring her body in a beautiful series of arty shots

  • Nude Yoga Girl has amassed over 54,000 followers who love her beautifully-shot nude yoga poses
  • The 25-year-old makes sure her 'intimate parts' are hidden with good angles and dark shadows
  • She's only had three snaps taken down, and now uses Photoshop to edit away visible nipples
  • The model and photographer wants her account to promote body-positivity and make people see what amazing things their bodies can do

Instagram's nudity policy has oft been criticized for being too conservative, with the app removing any shapshot - including those posted by celebrities - that reveal even a hint of female nipple or buttocks. But one model and yoga enthusiast has managed to find a way around those regulations, stripping off every last piece of clothing to create beautiful portraits of herself doing yoga.

Nude Yoga Girl, 25, has amassed 54,500 followers in the months since she first started posting on the social media platform, sharing black-and-white snaps of herself twisting and contorting her long, lithe body - all without a stitch of clothing on.

But though the former model, who wishes to remain anonymous, reveals every inch of her toned, taut figure that would be the envy of most women, Nude Yoga Girl told Daily Mail Online that the overarching message she wants to promote with her page is that of body acceptance.

Rihanna, Chrissy Teigen, Miley Cyrus, and Kendall Jenner have all seen photos of themselves taken down by Instagram, which bans buttocks and female nipples on its app.

But Nude Yoga Girl has found ways around those rules - for the most part. Making use of perfectly-angled poses and expert lighting that casts shadows in all the right places, she's successfully shared 50 snaps of herself doing yoga in the buff.

She has had a few mishaps, she admits. So far, Instagram has removed three of the pictures she's uploaded for showing nipple. But despite the hassle, she actually doesn't have a problem with the restrictions.

'It's absolutely good that Instagram has guidelines,' she wrote after a couple of her pictures were taken down. 'Now I'm gonna Photoshop nipples away (they were under a shadow before). Not so real now, but I want to follow guidelines of course!'

It also helps that she isn't concerned about the sexual nature of nudity. Her photos, shot in black and white on a plain background, are more about the art.

'I wanted to make the photos look very simple and minimalistic; I thought black and white would work the best for this,' she told New York Magazine's The Cut. 'It's also easier to hide the intimate parts of your body with shadows. In real life we see everything in color, and by doing black-and-white photos the nudity doesn't come across so aggressively but in a more artistic way.'

As a photographer, she works on framing the perfect shot, which spotlights her incredible strength and balance as she does handstands, pulls her legs up behind her head, and does splits.

She'll find inspiration online for her latest pose before setting up the lighting and camera. She then warms up, and when she is feeling good and limber, she'll call over her boyfriend to push the button on the camera.

'Some photos succeed straight away and other take several shots to get right,' she told Daily Mail Online. 'I want the lines of the body to be precise in the pictures.'

After she's snapped away, she'll go on her computer and use Photoshop to 'shadow the most intimate parts' before finally uploading them to her page.

Nude Yoga Girl said that she's been practicing yoga for years, but only started doing it daily this year. Sometimes, she does a little downward dog in her clothes - and sometimes she strips down for her morning sessions.

By now she's mastered plenty of difficult positions, including her hardest, in which she stands and pulls her left leg all the way up behind her head. She posted it three days ago to nearly 4,000 likes.

She's also particularly proud of the fifth photo she posted on the site, which now serves as her profile picture. In it, she stands with her legs crossed, bent at the knees. She's bent at the waist and her arms are crossed in front of her.

'We can shape our life. We can shape our body,' she captioned it.

Nude Yoga Girl is also big on promoting body positivity - in fact, the tagline for her account is: 'You are beautiful exactly the way you are.'

It took her a long time to realize that herself, even though she works as a model. She told The Cut that she used to see faults in her body all the time, but she's now been able to make peace.

'I've been working in an industry that is purely based on looks since I was 15,' she said. 'Yoga has taught me that the most important thing is how I feel, not how I look from the outside.'

She's also stopped keeping the restrictive diet she used to because she realized it made her unhappy. Now, she'll give in when she's craving for a piece of chocolate and not allow herself to feel guilty about it. She hopes that her followers will help others love their bodies, too.

'With my account I want to inspire people to realize that everybody is very beautiful and capable of [doing] amazing things with their bodies. Yoga helped me accept my body exactly the way it is,' she said.

Her photos have certainly reached plenty of people.

The model told Daily Mail Online that she never expected to grow such a huge following, but she's thrilled that people seem to understand what she stands for - that it's not about pushing boundaries but appreciating the human body and what it can do..

'I'm very happy that people understand my art and the message of my account in the right way. That is the most important thing,' she said.
