'She called me the day my best friend died': Boyd Holbrook reveals Elizabeth Olsen ended their engagement with a phone call

It's been almost a year since their break-up but Boyd Holbrook is still reeling from his split with Elizabeth Olsen.

The actor has revealed that the Godzilla beauty ended their engagement over the phone, the same day his best friend passed away.

The 34-year-old described his break-up with the actress as a 'divorce' as he told Man Of The World: 'On the same day that my best friend died, I got a call from my girl to tell me it was over.'

Just as neither of the duo's reps confirmed their engagement in March 2014 - they also stayed mum on the break-up in January.

Olsen, 26, stopped wearing her engagement ring shortly after but never spoke publicly about the relationship.

The Narcos star talked about the personal struggles he dealt with in the months that followed the split and losing his close friend, photographer David Armstrong.

'David was the first person in my life to encourage me. He told me to do everything I wanted to do. No one had ever told me that before. He was a very important figure in my life,'

The actor revealed he has now found a new perspective after piecing his life back together, explaining: 'What happened over the course of the journey was that I started noticing the different types of trees

'I started noticing beauty, the details.' he added.

The former couple first met on the set of their 2013 movie Very Good Girls while filming with co-stars Dakota Fanning and Demi Moore.

Meanwhile, Olsen has been rumored to be dating her I Saw The Light co-star Tom Hiddleston.

But she dismissed it as just a friendship in September when she told Refinery 29: 'I mean, we definitely are friends and we've known each other for about four years,

'We happened to be at a restaurant at a wrong time having dinner. We all go out to dinner.’

When asked directly if she was dating the 34-year-old actor she said: 'No. I mean people can think what they want to think.'

As for Holbrook, he is currently working on documentaries with director and producer Madeleine Sackler.

After moving out of the Brooklyn apartment he shared with Olsen he now lives small town 30 miles west of Woodstock, New York.
