'It wasn't cool enough': Camera-shy Sia contemplated wearing prosthetic mask for performance on The Graham Norton Show

She refuses to unveil her face in public, preferring to hide behind an array of eccentric wigs.

And Sia was sporting her favourite headpiece for her appearance onThe Graham Norton Show, where she serenaded the studio audience with a rendition of her new single Alive and admitted she came close to ditching her eccentric look.

The 39-year-old singer confessed she almost unveiled her face during her stint on the BBC chat show, saying, 'I was going to reveal my face but not really my face – I tried it with prosthetics but it wasn’t cool enough.'

Sia made a strong sartorial statement, wearing a giant velvet bow perched on top of her black and blonde wig.

The edgy cut completely shielded her face, revealing only her mouth, accentuated with bright red lipstick.

The Australian star donned a quirky silver dress with a cute A-line skirt and long sleeves for her TV appearance.

Joining host Graham on the sofa, she discussed her new track, Alive, co-written by Adele for her own album.

Sia explained: 'We were writing it for her new album but it didn’t fit with the other tracks so she rejected it.

'I sent it to Rihanna’s people and they rejected it, but in the meantime everyone said I should do it myself.'

The laid-back vocalist also joked about struggling to hit the high notes during her live performances.

'I can’t sing any of my songs in the key I originally recorded them in', she said. 'I don’t know how those kids on The X Factor do it – it’s crazy how they hit the high notes.

'Adele gave me a great tip if I ever tour my songs – before hitting the high notes I’ll turn the microphone on the audience and let them do it!'

Also joining Sia on Graham's sofa was Hollywood great Kurt Russell, comedian Tina Fey, and funnyman Josh Widdicombe. 

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One on Friday 11 December at 10.35pm.
