Beyonce 'is on board' for remake of A Star Is Born... as actor Bradley Cooper prepares to direct new version of Hollywood classic

Bradley Cooper and Beyonce are all set to make another remake of A Star Is Born.

Cooper, 40, has been trying for some time to get the project off the ground that would see him move behind the camera in his directorial debut.

Now PageSix.com is reporting that Beyonce, 34, has agreed to join him in the leading role previously played on screen by Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand.

Cooper first got involved in the remake when his American Sniper director Clint Eastwood was set to helm the film and offered him the part.

Beyonce was also circling it at the time the project ground to a halt in 2012 when the pop star dropped out citing scheduling conflicts.

Now, it's reported, she's keen to revisit the idea.

'She wants to land leading roles in movies and has been taking classes in New York and L.A. for the past year,' an insider revealed to Us Weekly.

She previously appeared in 2006's Dreamgirls, for which Jennifer Hudson won a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award, and in 2002's Austin Powers in Goldmember.

However, the Bootylicious star may have to wait a while before being able to sink her teeth into the part of an aspiring singer who gradually outshines her once famous but now fading mentor.

It's likely that Cooper will do another acting role before going into production on his remake which would mean an end of 2016 or a 2017 start date.

'He’s out to find the rest of the cast, but he may take another acting role. He’s furiously making everything he can,' a source told PageSix.com.

A Star Is Born first hit the big screen in 1937 and told the story of an aspiring actress, played by Janet Gaynor, and an older movie star - Frederic March - who helps make her dreams of Hollywood stardom come true even as he descends into alcoholism and despair.

The story was re-told as a musical starring Judy Garland in 1954, earning her a Best Actress Oscar nomination, and pitting her opposite James Mason as a fading matinee idol.

In 1976, the film was remade for a third time with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in the leading roles.

While the movie was critically panned, Streisand did win the Academy Award for Best Orignal Song for the movie's theme Evergreen.
