Battle of the sexes! Chelsea Handler and Maria Sharapova smash Will Arnett and Andy Roddick at pro am tennis tournament

She is used to garnering guffaws as a self-styled television comic.

And Chelsea Handler had the crowd hooting with laughter when she teamed up with Maria Sharapova to crush Will Arnett and Andy Roddick at a pro am tennis tournament in Los Angeles on Saturday.

They beat the men 3-1 in the Maria Sharapova and Friends exhibition match, despite having the disadvantage of having to face the former US Open champion's legendary 155 miles per hour serve.

The saucy blondes had too much craft for their opponents, despite the fact Arrested Development funnyman Will, 45, had gone to the lengths of dressing head-to-toe in tennis gear, unlike the more casually dressed Chelsea Lately favourite.

Their sterling result brings to mind the classic Billie Jean King Battle Of The Sexes victory over Bobby Riggs in 1973, a match which shook the world.

Meanwhile the self-aware 40-year-old comic admits she looks 'stupid' in a pink wedding dress in a trailer for her forthcoming new Netflix documentary series.

The comedienne is seemingly shocked at how bad she appears in the gown, which she dons as part of a personal investigation into marriage in the four subject series Chelsea Does.

The other subjects she will tackle in what will surely be a thoughtful, thorough and scientific manner are racism, drugs, and Silicon Valley,

And it seems she may not be quite the beacon of impartial journalistic integrity her fans will be hoping for she admits: 'I don't mean to be judgmental. But I am.'

Chelsea Does is her first project with Netflix, and she is also going to be the star of a new chat show on the streaming service.

Explaining why she decided to do a series of documentaries, she says: 'My whole reason for doing a documentary is I'm questioning things I never did before and saying to the world "this is how I feel."'

The show will premiere at next year’s Sundance Film Festival on January 22 and launch for Netflix audiences the following Saturday.
