Man of the hour Idris Elba can't keep the smile off his face as he steps out following his SAG and Golden Globe nominations

He's just been given two big reasons to smile.

And Idris Elba seemed to be basking in the glow of his SAG and Golden Globe nominations as he visited the BBC Radio 2 studios in London on Friday.

The 43-year-old was beaming like a Cheshire cat as he made his way in to the building, and his spirits were lifted even higher when he bumped into friend Quentin Tarantino in the lobby.

The British heartthrob looked effortlessly cool for the outing, donning a pair of jeans, black trainers, and a fitted grey jumper that clung to his toned arms.

He kept the chill away in a cosy green jacket, clutching on to a warming cup of coffee.

But whilst it may have been cold in London, Idris is currently hot property as Hollywood's brightest new star, earning himself prestigious nominations for his work in Beasts of No Nation.

And the accolades don't stop there, as he has been recognised in the same category, as well as for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, by the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Idris has also been nominated for his role in Luther, with another SAG and Golden Globe nod for his part as troubled policeman DCI John Luther in the BBC series.

And the star is set to reprise his role as the titular character when the two-part special airs next week.

With Idris receiving nominations for his part, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the drama.

Although it's not just the rave reviews that makes Luther special, as the star recently credited the series with 'saving his life'.

In an interview with Radio Times he revealed: 'An actor who works all the time and is always in his characters, you just lose your roots.

'Your parts become better, your acting becomes better because you’re always working on your craft, but you stifle your growth as a person.

'I was in danger of doing that post-The Wire. Luther saved my life.'
