Ashlee Simpson was a vision of effortless style as she took time out from caring for her two young children to enjoy a spot of shopping in Los Angeles, California, on Thursday.

The mother-of-two chose to conceal her slim post-baby body and slipped on a billowing black maxi dress which she paired with a matching blazer coat for the outing with a girl friend.

Ashlee, 31, swamped her figure from head-to-toe but a glimpse of her slender legs were visible thanks to the lace hem.

 Although the Chicago actress prioritised comfort, she didn't compromise style and teamed the casually cool look with a pair of patent leather brogues.

Ashlee accessorised with a leather tote handbag, strings of black beads and a pair of oversized sunglasses which afforded her some coverage.

She kept her hair and make-up in fitting with her dressed down theme and allowed her lightly tousled peroxide blonde locks to tumble down over her shoulders while she sported a lightly made-up face.

Ashlee was joined by an equally casually-dressed girl pal and she showed no sign of exhaustion despite juggling her career with being mother to seven-year-old son Bronx - whose father is her ex-husband Pete Wentz - and daughter Jagger Snow who was born in July.

She is married to talented actor Evan Ross - the son of singing sensation Diana - and the couple waited two months before introducing their new addition to the world on social media.

'Jagger Snow Ross !! We love her so much!!! She is beyond everything!!! I have the best baby daddy @realevanross In the world. Love you,' Ashlee gushed alongside a sweet family portrait, posted on her Instagram account in September.

Ashlee confirmed that as well as she and first-time father Evan, her first child Bronx is also smitten with his half-sister. 

Speaking about her son's relationship with the newest member of their family, Ashlee told E! News, 'Knox is such a good older brother.

'He's always saying how beautiful she is and wanting to hold her. He was just dancing for her last night.'
