'I make people richer than god': Madoff trailer shows Richard Dreyfuss as disgraced fraudster Bernie alongside Blythe Danner as Ruth

Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss stars as disgraced investment fraudster Bernie Madoff in a new miniseries hitting TV screens in February.

The trailer for Madoff was released on Friday, giving a sneak peek at the TV special which follows the rise and spectacular fall of the former stockbroker, culminating in his incarceration in 2009.

Dreyfuss, 68, delivers the line: 'People give me their money and I make them richer than God' in the dramatic clip.

The actor narrates the preview to explain how he became responsible for a Ponzi scheme considered the largest financial fraud in U.S. history.

Blythe Danner, 72, stars as Madoff's wife Ruth, while his late sons Mark and Andrew are played by Tom Lipinski and Danny Deferrari respectively.

As the drama unfolds, the businessman is seen admitting to his family that he has lost $50 billion while in another scene he snaps 'someone turned me in!' 

Ruth is seen sitting helplessly as the FBI scour the family home and her son Mark (Lipinski) yells down the phone at her 'If you want to save yourself mom, let him rot in jail where he belongs'

The miniseries is based on the true events that unfolded after Madoff's sons turned him in to authorities in 2008.

He was eventually jailed a year later for 150 years - the maximum sentence allowed in the federal system.

Investigators dismissed Madoff's claims he started the fraudulent activity in the 1990s and say it had been going on since the mid-1980s and maybe even as far back as the 1970s.

The Madoff investment scandal defrauded thousands of investors of billions of dollars. 

His clients reportedly lost almost almost $65 billion from 4,800 accounts.

Madoff's son Mark committed suicide in 2010, exactly two years to the day Madoff was arrested. Andrew died after a long battle with lymphoma in 2014.

In 2013 Madoff suffered a heart attack in his North Carolina prison and is also reportedly suffering kidney cancer as reported by CNBC

Madoff premieres February 3 on ABC.
