And while they normally end up with a blade being swung at a head, it was Lauren Cohan's own noggin that was in line for the chop.

The 33-year-old showed off her brand new pixie cut at the iHeart Radio Jingle Ball in New York on Friday night.

The Walking Dead star arrived rocking a casual look to go with her new short do, wearing faded black jeans, a loose black cami top under a clack blazer with the sleeves rolled up. 

The actress, who plays Maggie Greene is the hit AMC zombie show, kept her make-up subtle, letting her natural good looks accentuate themselves.

Fan favourite Maggie is one of the very few original characters still alive in both the TV show and the comic.

Her on-screen husband Glenn - played by Steven Yeun - meanwhile sent followers of the series into a panic when he appeared to be eaten alive by walkers.

But there was palpable relief when it was discovered right before the mid-season finale when it was discovered it was merely the dead body on lying on top of him that was being devoured. 

In the November cliff hanger, their safe haven of Alexandria was breached as a herd of walkers flowed into the compound, with Maggie unsure is her husband is alive or dead.

Also spotted at the Jingle Ball were Selena Gomez, Hailee Steinfeld, Ariel Winter, Tove Lo, Chloe Grace Moretz and Tinashe.
