There's no denying that this has been one of his most difficult series of The X Factor.

But having persevered, Simon Cowell was in good spirits as he enjoyed a beer on Sunday as he waved goodbye to another season, despite the final picking up the lowest ratings ever.

The show, which featured performances for Adele, Coldplay and One Direction, was the lowest watched final since 2004 and only managed to pull in 8.4million viewers.

The father-of-one was truly in his element as he relaxed with his beverage in hand which would come as no surprise as he took his mind off the poor viewing figures.

While last year's final drew in 8.93million viewers, Sunday night's live episode only managed to pull 8.4million viewers and for five minutes the two hour show saw 9.9million viewers.

In 2004, 8.1million were glued to their screens as they watched Steve Brookstein win the first ever series and 11 years on only 300,000 more tuned in to see this year's star-studded final.

Winning the ratings battle, Strictly Come Dancing had an average viewership of 10.8million.

But nonetheless, Simon still managed to look overjoyed as he greeted waiting photographers and flashed his pearly whites from inside his chauffeur driven car.

Seemingly delighted to finally have their weekends back, Cowell and Silverman put on a jubilant display as they appeared to share a joke.

Be a lady in red like Lauren with a dress by Victoria Beckham

And that's a wrap! X-Factor has finally come to a close with Louisa Johnson being crowned the winner of the talent show and she more than deserved the title.

Simon Cowell is no doubt chuffed with the public's decision to crown the teen and he looked pretty pleased here with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman as they headed home post show. But Simon does have a lot to be pleased about, we mean, just look at how fabulous Lauren Silverman looks!

The mother of one poured her fabulous figure into a Victoria Beckham slinky dress for the show and the scarlet hue looked perfect next to Lauren's glowing skin and dark tresses. The piece featured an asymmetric design with a triple strap to one side and the low cut finish allowed Lauren to show off her assets.

If you want to bag yourself a festive red dress this season, click right to bag Lauren's Victoria Beckham number now from the new season line. It's a little on the pricey side though so if you want the look for less, see our racy red alternatives below.

Still dressed in his suit from the live finale, Simon donned a grey two piece with a crisp white shirt.

Meanwhile Lauren, 38, stunned in a plunging scarlet number which featured multiple thin straps.

Silverman opted to tuck her dark locks behind her ears as she highlighted her brown eyes with lashings of mascara and kept her pout plain.

After the show, Simon took to Twitter to thank all the viewers for tuning in and to send his congratulations to winner Louisa Johnson as well as Reggie N Bollie.

He tweeted: 'Unbelievable night. A lot to remember. And an incredible winner. Thank you to everyone who has watched the series.

'And congrats to Reggie and Bollie. The nicest people. They will sell records next year.'

This series of X Factor launched just after the tragic passing of Simon's beloved mother, Julie Brett.

Julie died on July 5 aged 89, after being ill for a long time following a stroke she suffered in 2014.

The loss in his family left the talent show boss understandably 'devastated' and led to the cancellation of the first batch of auditions.

Until next year: This series of X Factor was perhaps one of Simon's most difficult as it began shortly after the death of his belover mother Julie
