Pyrophobic villains cower in fear.

The new CW series is a spin off from Arrow and Flash, and features a slew of heroes and villains recruited from each to battle a new mega baddie bent of destroying the world.

The nine-member squad includes a time traveler, a guy who can shrink, a guy who can freeze stuff, a couple who can fly, and no less than three people who set things on fire.

Brandon Routh, who once headed up the DC universe as Superman, reappears in his much, much, much smaller role as The Atom, the shrinking power suit-wearing equivalent of Marvel's Ant-Man.

Prison Break duo Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell return as the polar opposite Captain Cold and Heatwave, each equipped with a self explanatory gun.

And just in case the bad guy is particularly afraid of fire, both Victor Garber and Franz Drameh repise their respective roles as Martin Stein and Jax Jackson, who merge to form the pyrokenetic character Firestorm.

Covering the skies are Falk Hentschel and Ciara Renée who once again play the reincarnated winged soulmates Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

The team's only other female member is Sara Lance, played by Caity Lotz; formerly known as Canary, she was killed in season two of Arrow but resurrected as White Canary, despite sharing none of the backstory of her comic book counterpart.

And bringing them all together is the time travelling Rip Hunter - played by Arthur Darvill - who travels back in time to assemble the team in an attempt to stop the 4,000-year-old immortal villain Vandal Savage from destroying the world and time itself.

The premise was set up in a two-hour Flash/Arrow crossover event earlier this month.

Because of the time travel mechanic, series co-creator Greg Berlanti claims the show can exist in its own universe, despite borrowing all its characters from its parent shows.

'Once ‘Legends’ is born in January, there’s really no intersection [with it] on the other shows,' he told Variety.

'Legends is kind of its own wacky, crazy kind of thing that allows for some fun surprises in terms of who may visit and how because they’re flying through the timeline and you’ll start to see more of that. But not on Arrow or Flash.'

Legends Of Tomorrow debuts on The CW on January 21.
