'I begged for six months': Gwendoline Christie reveals she PLEADED with film bosses to get coveted role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

She is, of course, part of the new cast in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

But fans of the iconic franchise may be surprised to learn that actress Gwendoline Christie literally begged for her role as Captain Phasma.

The blonde beauty made the revelation while appearing as a guest on Alan Carr's Chatty Man, which was recorded earlier this week.

Speaking to the funnyman about how she landed the part from director JJ Abrahams, the TV actress was frank in detail.

'I begged for six months,' she said. 'I was begging, begging, begging. “Please can I be seen for this film?” all the time. My representatives at the time would be emailing and sending me lovely emails about other possible jobs and I would just email back ‘I really want to be in Star Wars’.

'That just kept on and kept on until I think I probably exhausted some people and then they finally made a call, and they probably exhausted all of them with asking too.

'I think JJ just did it out of sympathy because I’d worn him down.'

Looking casually glam in a cropped, cream trouser suit, the Game of Thrones performer was clearly on good form as she discussed the cinematic return of the sci-fi classic.

Keeping her make-up light and neutral, she added just nude tones for a subtle glow.

Speaking of what it was like on the film's set, she added: 'It was totally surreal. It's the most enormous set I’ve ever walked on to, with the most incredible detail.

'And its like when you are a kid and you want to be in Star Wars and you pretend you are in Star Wars – I walked on to the set and I was in Star Wars, with all sorts of things going around all around me. I could not believe it.

'It was wonderfully overwhelming.'

Make a statement in an Oscar de la Renta gown like Gwendoline

The highly anticipated new Star Wars film is finally here, and whilst diehard fans are waiting to see how the plot of the latest installment unfolds, we were more interested in how the red carpet did!

With more than a nod to sci-fi, the premiere in LA saw actresses sashay along the red carpet in an array of space age inspired looks.

Amongst the stars at the event was Gwendoline Christie who donned a custom Oscar de la Renta gown. Featuring the fashion house’s signature high-low silhouette over a tulle skirt and layered bodice, the dress was completed with a black halter neck fashioned into a bow- another hallmark of the designer.

Whilst this gown is bespoke and not available to buy, you can shop the current ready-to-wear collection at Net-a-Porter (click right).

Discussing the premiere in LA, she added: 'Everyone was there. We pull up in the car and there are sniffer dogs everywhere. Canines everywhere. Homeland security.

'They shut down the whole of the street and put an enormous tent up and then got out of the car, and it was the most incredibly surreal moment where you get out of the car and Star Wars is emblazoned on signs all around you. It’s a huge carpet and I think I’m just going to be taken home in a minute. I’m just going to be led off. “Sorry you’re not meant to be here” and I’ll be taken away.'

Then, when asked to compare the intensity of Game of Thrones fans to Star Warsobsessives, she added: 'I’ve not had that much experience of Star Wars yet, but everyone is very nice - all very nice and well mannered.

'There was one incident that was a bit unusual that I had with a Game of Thrones fan while I was having a root canal. So I was in the dentist chair and it was a very unglamorous state of affairs where they had done something and something was happening with the roots, and I had a clamp in my mouth.

The clamp was in the mouth with the plastic sheet up around the mouth as well, and the dentist left me with the nurse. The nurse really slapped me hard on the knee and said, “Now, tell me what happens in Game of Thrones”.

'The thing is I could have given it all away and she wouldn’t have understood.'
