Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli, 60, answers our health quiz.

CAN YOU RUN UP THE STAIRS?

Easily. I am extremely fit. I go to the gym daily and do a one-and-a-half-hour session, starting with cardio, then weights and finish with stretching.

GET YOUR FIVE A DAY?

Yes. In the mornings I make up a smoothie of beetroot, fresh ginger, chilli and fresh turmeric. And I'll eat raw onion, garlic and spinach.

POP ANY PILLS?

The occasional Berocca when I travel. I try to eat fish two or three times a week, but if I can't, I'll take an omega-3 supplement.

EVER DIETED?

I don't believe in diets. I could be greedy but I just don't let myself. I love my pizza and pasta but in moderation. When you spend so much time in front of a mirror rehearsing, you know what you can and can't eat. I am 5 ft 8in and weigh 11 st.

ANY VICES?

Smoking is my only vice - about 20 cigarettes a day. I'll have a glass of wine with a meal, but that's all. The last time I got drunk was 30 years ago - never again. And being Italian, I have to have my espresso in the morning, but that isn't a vice.

EVER HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY?

If I found a brilliant surgeon who could do it without making me look ridiculous, I probably would, if and when the time comes. I haven't had Botox - my face has to be mobile for my job.

WORST INJURY?

When I was 16 or 17, I got knocked off my bike and broke my collarbone. Luckily I landed on the grass verge or it could have been worse.

ANY FAMILY AILMENTS?

My mother, bless her, died of heart disease in 1994, aged 63. She had very high blood pressure. My dad died seven years later, aged 70. He developed Alzheimer's. Before him there was no history of it in the family.

COPE WELL WITH PAIN?

I'm quite stoical. Apart from the odd muscular pain after overdoing it in the gym, I don't really suffer much. I don't get headaches, either.

HAD ANYTHING REMOVED?

My tonsils when I was very young. I can't remember much about it except that the pain was horrendous. I did get to eat ice cream for a week, though.

TRIED ALTERNATIVE REMEDIES?

Yes. I see a chiropractor occasionally if I get a problem after working out or dancing. They realign the spine.

EVER BEEN DEPRESSED?

No, but I went through a period where I lost a lot of people and that was very hard to deal with. We all have periods when we feel bad, but then the sun shines and everything is better.

WHAT KEEPS YOU AWAKE?

My sleep pattern suffers when I'm filming in America. There is no cure for jetlag. You just have to accept you'll feel terrible for a while and get on with it. Usually I go to bed at 11pm, read for an hour, then sleep solidly for eight hours.

LIKE TO LIVE FOR EVER?

I'd like to live as long as possible. But for ever... ? I'm not sure.

Bruno recently worked a surprise shift at Tesco in Kensington to help customers and employees enjoy the festive season.
