It is every policeman's nightmare and it came to pass for Sergeant Steve Underhill, who was called to a crash near his home town at Casino, northern NSW last Friday. When he arrived at the crash site he found the body of his four-year-old daughter Elle (centre) in the wreckage of the red Mazda 323. His two-year-old daughter, travelling in the backseat with her sister, had suffered critical injuries. The girls' 18-year-old babysitter was at the wheel. The distraught policeman, who was off-duty at the time but was called in to assist, had to be held back from the harrowing scene by shattered colleagues. The Underhill family's devastating story comes as police beg motorists nationwide to slow down and take care. Double demerit points begin on Christmas Eve and continue to January 2.

Wife faces assault charge after 'biting off her husband's ear' in an argument over BEER 

A St. Cloud woman was arrested after biting her husband's ear off during an argument over beer, according to a criminal complaint.

A criminal complaint filed in the Stearns County District Court said Jamie Elrod, 37, of St. Cloud is facing a first-degree assault charge.

According to the complaint, officers were called Friday evening to a domestic assault on Seventh Avenue South. Upon arrival, officers met with Elrod and her husband.

Officers noted in the criminal complaint that the husband was missing part of his right ear. During a search of the apartment, officers found blood as well as a part of victim's ear on the floor, the complaint said.

The victim told officers that he and Elrod had gotten into an argument over a beer, according to the complaint. The victim said that Elrod was yelling at him over a beer and then followed him into the bedroom where she reportedly "went off at him."

The complaint said it appeared Elrod had been drinking and, when asked what happened to the
