Aaron Carter is pictured with his 'ex' Lee Karis...after denying he has had mental breakdown in wake of revealing distress on Twitter over a relationship

He used Twitter and social media to vent his distress over a relationship, which led to many thinking he was facing a breakdown himself.

And after telling his fans he was ok and his words had been 'twisted' Aaron Carter was seen out with his apparent ex girlfriend Lee Karis on Tuesday.

The pair were seen together at the Malibu Country Mart, but neither seemed particularly happy.

They both appeared downcast as they walked towards a car side by side.

Aaron posted an upset post on Twitter on Sunday, saying: 'Has anyone ever had their heartbroken so bad that they feel it in other parts of their body? like cold feelings in your stomach, emptiness?' 

He continued 'Love is the toughest thing I deal with in my life. I'm constantly misunderstood and judged for my past, I'm a really sensitive guy and yes jealous and insecure at times cause I know I'm a skinny dude all of the anxiety stuff ...'

He had not been photographed with Lee since June - back then their appearance was a far cry from the mood between the pair on Tuesday.

Lee was seen planting a passionate smooch on the former child star's lips as they strolled together in Beverly Hills.

She was smiling and happy as she walked with her then beau.

Aaron, 27, meanwhile looked relaxed in her company.

The pair were also seen at Dancing With The Stars together last month cheering on his brother Nick - he Instagrammed a photo of them together in the audience.

Aaron was sitting on a plane when he had his social media outburst, apparently feeling 'completely' devastated and said he was suffering from 'a shattered heart.'

He went on to say while he tried to hide his emotion, all the time, he attempted to illustrate how he really felt with 'subliminal messages.'  

Aaron then added: 'I don't want to seem too emotional but you guys have literally been such an amazing support group for me.'

It was not known if he was talking about Kari at the time, but she is the last person he has been known to be dating.

The duo have had a number of ups and downs in their relationship - they were briefly engaged in 2006. 

He went on to his followers in the open letter on TwitterL 'You should never be with someone who tells you to 'shut the f--- up' because your annoyed cause you couldn't talk to them for 7 hours when Im NOT even being disrespectful myself.

'You should never be w (sic) someone who hangs up on you and leaves you feeling unsettled or unresolved all because they're too immature to handle confrontation like an adult.

'OR Someone who doesn't care about posting a picture with you for your anniversary or hiding me to your friends and family for months at a time because of judgment passed on me.'

He concluded saying: 'I'm sick of it. God please show me someone who will love me for the man I am now and show her to me I will cherish her I swear to you. You know who you are. You broke my heart.' 

His comments led to many of his fans being concerned about his mental health.

The brother of Backstreet Boys Nick Carter again used social media to say he was ok and explain what he meant: Everything i say gets so twisted and judged by many people all the time, it's outlandish. love is everything i stand for as well as.'

He continued: 'expressing myself and being as open as i can with myself, i get judged on a daily and that's OK this is my life and my feelings.'

Aaron then concluded: 'Theres no reason for people to accuse me of having "mental breakdowns" because i express myself & yea sometimes people p**s me off.

'Expressing yourself is a great thing to do, for ME, it allows me to vent and be myself, with my music too as well as everything i stand for.'

After a number of supportive messages from fans he posted a photo of himself on Tuesday flashing his backside.

He also put up some shots of him looking moody saying he was excited for his new music to come out.

He captioned some of the pictures saying: 'Never be afraid to speak your voice and embrace who YOU are.'

Another said: '2016 will be great.'
