She recently revealed her failed attempt at a make-out session with hunky surfer Kelly Slater.

And now pictures have emerged of Sophie Monk and the handsome professional surfer when they first became friends in 2004.

The blonde model and the World Surfing champion were seen together at Avalon beach in Sydney as they enjoyed lunch with friends.

Sophie was dressed casually for the outing in a stomach-baring crop top and light denim jeans, while she completed the look with a simply ponytail and a Hello Kitty handbag.

The pair were seen greeting each other with a kiss on the cheek as friends watched on, before Sophie went on to browse a New Village dress shop.

On Monday, the 36-year-old KIIS FM Summer Fling star told her co-host Matty Acton and their listeners about an encounter she had with Kelly, now 43, a short while before her pop career took off.

Sophie recounted: 'I was dying - he was just so hot! He asked for my phone number and I thought "This is the one, I think",' she explained.

The former Bardot singer admitted she had a crush on the sexy sportsman growing up and was desperate to see him again after staying in touch via text.

Making her way to a surf competition in Avalon, Victoria, with a friend from Geelong, Sophie happened to 'bump' into the surfer accidentally on purpose and he invited her back to his beach house 'to hang'.

Having had a few drinks across the day, Sophie revealed: 'At this point [in life] I hadn't had a few drinks really, not an expert like I am now at drinking.

'So I'm there, a few more drinks, he’s playing guitar - he's the ultimate of everything... And then he goes, "I'm going to take a shower", and I'm like, "Sure you are, I'm in", because my beer goggles are like "he wants me".

'So I sneak into this room and I'm like "Oh OK, so he's asleep", whatever. We’re making out and whatever... And I'm like, "I’ve always liked you Kelly," and I hear this, "Kelly?"'

Sophie revealed she had snuck into the wrong room and was actually making out with another surfer, not Kelly Slater.

'He turned on the light. I was in a bed bunk and it was like the Number 4 surfing champion of the world... I was like, "What are you doing?”

'And it was one of those nights where I went "And lets never talk about this again".

But it appears that it all ended well with Sophie and Kelly spotted together at the MTV Australian Video Music Awards in 2004.

The pair were even rumoured to be dating around that time but it seems things weren't meant to be, with Sophie going on to date Benji Madden.

The couple got engaged in 2006 before calling it quits in 2008. Benji is now married to actress Cameron Diaz, who coincidentally happened to also date Kelly Slater previously.
