The Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, headed by Assistant Secretary Victoria Nuland, develops and implements U.S. foreign policy in Europe and Eurasia. The Bureau promotes U.S. interests in the region on issues such as international security, NATO, coordination with the European Union and other regional organizations, support for democracy, human rights, civil society, economic prosperity, counterterrorism, and nonproliferation.
On November 13-14, Assistant Secretary Nuland joined Secretary Kerry in Vienna for bilateral and multilateral meetings with foreign counterparts to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria. On July 9-16, Assistant Secretary Nuland traveled to Switzerland, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, and Ukraine to discuss the implementation by all parties of the Minsk Agreements; deliver remarks on the western Balkans and Transatlantic relations; mark the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide; and meet with senior government officials and political leaders to discuss bilateral and regional issues.
