A woman who was thrown off a plane before it had even taken off has been arrested for allegedly kicking, screaming and spitting at police as she tried to re-book her flight.

Amanda Abel, 27, was drunk on board an Allegiant plane at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, Florida, on Christmas Eve, authorities said.

Air stewards removed her from the aircraft and were helping her arrange another flight when she 'started yelling, cursing, screaming in the gate area', according to an affidavit.

She then 'began throwing things and fell to the floor in a tantrum, shouting a tirade of profanities', WTSP reported.

Abel, from Tampa, Florida, was arrested after allegedly 'kicking, screaming and spitting' at police officers who were trying to calm her down.

The affidavit stated that Abel's mood swung 'from being calm and apologetic to screaming, threatening and kicking at deputies'.

She spent the afternoon of Christmas Eve in Pinellas County Jail and was released that evening on a $100 bond after being charged with a misdemeanor.
