Three people have been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a luxury high-rise apartment building in New Jersey, authorities said. 

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says the bodies were found Friday night at the Windsor at Mariners Tower, an apartment building on the bank of the Hudson River in Edgewater.

According to the New York Daily News, Molinelli says 52-year-old Michael Stasko shot his 49-year-old wife, Melissa, and 8-year-old daughter, Nellie, while they were in bed, before turning the gun on himself.

The newspaper reports Melissa Stasko's brother in Missouri contacted police, who found the bodies.

The investigation is ongoing.

According to the New York Daily News, Molinelli said: 'We do not know at this point in time why Mr. Stasko shot his wife and daughter.

'We don't know what perhaps was going through Mr. Stasko's mind for him to do this.'

Cliffside Park-Edgewater Daily Voice reported that Molinelli revealed to reporters Stasko used a .45-caliber handgun containing hollow-point bullets.

The website quoted Molinelli as saying: 'It appears that Mrs. Stasko and young Nellie were dressed for bed.'

He also said, according to Cliffside Park-Edgewater Daily Voice: 'There were indications that Nellie Stasko looked very lovingly upon the father.

'There were cards and things around the apartment.'

According to reports, Michael Stasko sold watches.
