SPOILER ALERT: Mick Carter takes terror plunge into deep water after brawl with brother Dean Wicks in EastEnders' explosive New Year special

Danny Dyer will star in some of his most intense EastEnders scenes yet on New Year's Day.

New stills released ahead of Friday's dramatic special show his character Mick Carter dive into a lake after his villainous half-brother Dean Wicks, played by Matt Di Angelo - as a heated fight breaks out between them.

'I've got to say some of that stuff under the water. I was actually fighting for my life in real life,' he told The Daily Mirror.

'I had to have my earhole syringed - there was a lot of lake in my earhole.'

In the scenes, it's apparent that Mick's patience with Dean - who raped his wife Linda in a shocking scene earlier this year - finally runs out as they come to blows.

The explosive episode is set to be one of the darkest yet, with executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins revealing that the most gruesome specials always earn the best ratings.

'People expect EastEnders to be gruesome. They did a happy Christmas one year and it had the lowest ratings ever,' he explained.

Show-makers previously teased that the episode could see the end for one of the characters.
