Queen steals the show with quick change from vintage fur coat to vibrant red outfit between Christmas Day services

  • Hours later, Her Majesty was seen in festive red coat and matching hat
  • Formal Christmas at Sandringham requires a number of dress codes

While many of her subjects were still lounging at home in their pyjamas, the Queen was photographed looking resplendent in not one, but two, elegant outfits on Christmas morning.

The 89-year-old royal looked stylish in a vintage fur coat as she stepped out for a private family service on the Sandringham estate, in Norfolk.

Just two hours later - after a very quick change - Her Majesty was seen in a vibrant red coat and hat. Proving she has an eye for detail, the Queen finished the look with a matching umbrella.

They are the first of a number of outfits the Queen is expected to wear today, as the formal Christmas at Sandringham House requires a number of different dress codes.

The Queen looked polished in a white jacket and matching skirt as she led members of the Royal Family to a private family church service this morning.

Carrying a simple black handbag, the Queen accessorised her look with a string of pearls and matching earrings.

She made sure she kept warm with a favourite brown fur coat, which she has been pictured wearing at occasions as far back as 1961 - when she embarked on a royal tour of India, Pakistan and Iran.

Her Majesty was followed this morning by her sons, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, and her daughter-in-law the Duchess of Cornwall.

The Duchess, who could not attend the services last year because of a bad back, opted for a classic navy blue coat and black boots. She also carried an umbrella - ready for the bad weather.

The Queen was also joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, who looked dashing in a long brown coat as he made his way to the service alongside his daughter, Princess Anne.

By the time the Queen arrived at St Mary Magdalene Church at 11am, she had changed into a second exquisite outfit.

Her Majesty looked particularly festive in a fur-trimmed red coat and matching hat, waving at passers-by as she drove past in her Bentley.

Choosing to keep her accessories simple, the Queen wore pearls in her ears and appeared to be carrying the same black bag as she was seen with earlier.

And demonstrating her eye for fashion, the Queen managed to find a red-trimmed umbrella, which had to use when she stepped out of the church into the rain.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge dazzled in a green coat as she arrived alongside Prince William for the traditional service.

The Duchess, who left her two young children at home, completed her look with a pair of drop earrings and a diamond brooch.

The 33-year-old royal tied a thin green belt around her waist, accentuating her thin frame. And she opted to have her hair tied in a low bun, drawing attention to her beautiful hat.

Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, who arrived at the event with her husband and children, also looked sophisticated in a bespoke tweed dress coat by London fashion designer Suzannah.

Princess Eugenie brought a splash of colour to the occasion, while Princess Beatrice paired her navy blue coat with a velvet hat by Juliette Botterill and a Stacy Chan clutch bag.
