It is the time for mistletoe and wine.

But Naya Rivera led the way in a more modern festive tradition when she shared an adorable photo of her three-month-old son being cradled by Santa on Christmas Eve.

The gushing Glee star was just one of several big names who were getting into the holiday spirit by uploading intimate pictures to Instagram, including such luminaries as Sarah Michelle Gellar and Josh Duhamel.

Naya, 28, captioned the picture: 'Merry Christmas Eve! His smile, joy, and life make everyday feel like a holiday.'

Following her break-up with her rapper fiance Big Sean in April 2014 the saucy starlet soon started dating friend Ryan Dorsey, and they got married in July that year. Little Josie was born in September.

The Devious Maids beauty recently wrote a blog post describing the first moment she laid eyes on her newborn.

She said: 'Seeing Josey for the first time literally took my breath away. Really, I gasped! It was such a surreal moment to be face to face with my son.'

Meanwhile Buffy The Vampire Slayer favourite Sarah Michelle Gellar shared a series of pictures, one of which included her Scooby Doo star husband Freddie Prinze Jr. 

One image, which showed her standing in front of the tree, was captioned: 'Getting ready for the big guys arrival. Baking #cupcakes for #santa'

And another showed the result of thier exploits. The mother-of-two said: 'We are officially ready for #santa @foodstirs cupcakes made completely by my 6 year old, apples for the #reindeer and a note from Charlotte warning him to not to eat the #cupcake she made for #mrsclaus.'

And shameless Transformers actor Josh Duhamel admitted he stole his son Axl's Christmas present as he shared a photo of himself flying a toy helicopter.

Mr Fergie said: ' Got this... for my son, but it's for ages 12+. He's not 12, so....#minenow.'
