Grantmaking

The LA84 Foundation is endowed with Southern California’s share of the surplus from the 1984 Olympic Games. As one part of its overall effort to expand youth sports opportunities in Southern California and enhance the public’s understanding of the role of sport in society, the Foundation operates a grants program.

The LA84 Foundation awards grants in Southern California’s eight counties: Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. Special emphasis is given to Los Angeles, the city that hosted the 1984 Olympic Games.

The Foundation prioritizes organizations that serve groups and communities underserved by traditional sports programs, including girls, ethnic minorities, and the physically challenged and developmentally disabled. LA84 Foundation funds are primarily intended for the development of youth sports below the elite level.

The LA84 Foundation will consider a request from any bona fide Southern California organization devoted to youth sports. A list of the most recent organizations that have received a grant from the Foundation from inception to date can be found here.

The Foundation has an online grant application form. There are two parts to the LA84 Foundation application process. When you click on the first link in the yellow box in the upper right, you will begin the first part of the application process. This will give you an opportunity to provide a summary of your program for the Foundation to consider. If it is determined from the Phase I of the application that the request meets the Foundation’s priorities and interests, you will be provided with instructions for Phase 2 of the process. Please note that funding is not guaranteed at any phase of the application process.

Please carefully read the eligibility information and funding guidelines. If you have any questions, please click on the “Contact Us” link at the top of the application page or call the Foundation directly at 323-730-4620 and ask to speak to a Program Officer for assistance.
