Japan provides over a million USD for development projects in Ghor

imgSeptember 29, Ambassador of Japan in Afghanistan HE Shigeyuki Hiroki signed with non-governmental organisations of Ghor seven development cooperation projects making up over a million USD in total. All the projects will be realised in Ghor province.

 

Non-governmental organizations committed to build three secondary schools in Chaghcharan, capital of Ghor, two primary healthcare centers in Lal Wa Sarjangal village, two suspension bridges in Dawlat Yar and three small hydroelectric power plant systems in Chaghcharan and Chaharsada district for the sum donated by Japan.

Commander-in Chief of the Lithuanian Naval Force took part in the Baltic Naval Commanders meeting in Estonia

imgSeptember 27-29, Commander-in-Chiefs of the Baltic Naval Forces gathered in an ordinary meeting in Tallinn (Estonia) with Adm (R) Kęstutis Macijauskas took part on Lithuania's behalf. In the meeting cooperation among the Baltic States' Naval Forces was discussed through the Baltic Naval Squadron (BALTRON) project and other working issues.

 

Information on activities of BALTRON activities in 2010 and proposals regarding enhancement of the unit's efficiency was presented to Naval Commanders of the Baltic States.

Participants of international youth exchange project visited Ministry of National Defence

imgSeptember 29, 32 participants of international youth exchange „Gender Equality: is everything for anyone?" from Norway, Germany, Wales and Lithuania were received at the Ministry of National Defence.

 

Participants of the projects listened to a representative of the PR Department Marius Alekna's presentation of the history of the Ministry of Defence, representative halls, and activity, and announcement of Spokesperson to the Chief of Defence Capt Tomas Balkus on the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

September 20-24, Gen Tadeusz Kosciuska Land Force Academy in Wroclaw, Poland, hosted the Baltic Sea Military Academy Conference BSMAC where Lithuania was represented by the Commandant of Gen Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy Col Gintaras Bagdonas and three cadets.

 

Other participants of the conference represented Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Germany.

Arms control inspectors of the Lithuanian Armed Forces will visit air base in Belarus

imgSeptember 28-30, three arms control experts of the Lithuanian Armed Forces will conduct an evaluation visit in the Belarusian Air Force's Attack Air Base in Lida.

 

The visit is organised under the OSCE Vienna Document 1999 securing to each OSCE member the right to verify if any other member of the organization does not undertake military activities requiring prior notification, or does not maintain undeclared military capabilities.

New Defence Attaché of China will be accredited

imgOn September 27 Defence Attachés of China in Lithuania will change in a ceremony at the Ministry of National Defence. Senior Colonel of the Army of the People's Republic of China Xuguang Yung will be replaced by Senior Colonel Wei Zhou.

 

The outgoing Senior Colonel X. Yang will be awarded with the Medal of Merit of the National Defence System.

 

The new Defence Attaché Senior Colonel W. Zhou has been serving in the Army of the People's Republic of China since 1976. Before assuming the current position W. Zhou worked as Defence Attaché of China in Zimbabwe. In different stages of his career he also worked in the Defence Ministry of China, Embassy of China in Pakistan, and Assistant Defence Attaché of China in Germany.

Soldier wounded in Afghanistan was flown back to Lithuania

MSgt Audrius Lužaitis injured in an incident in Afghanistan, Chaghcharan, was flown back to Lithuania late in the evening of Saturday to Šiauliai Military Airport by C27J „Spartan" of the Lithuanian Air Force.

Final exercise „PRT-12 Challenge

imgSeptember 27 - October 1, active phase of pre-deployment training „PRT-12 Challenge" of the 12th rotation of PRT is held at Kazlų Rūda Military Area (Marijampolės Distr.) before duty in Ghor, province of Afghanistan.

 

In the final phase of pre-mission training PRT-12 personnel will undergo assessment of the results they achieved during a half of year.

Military Attachés accredited to Lithuania will meet for the autumn tour

imgSeptember 23-24, autumn tour of Military Attachés accredited in Lithuania will begin in Kaunas.

 

On the first day of the tour Military Attachés will visit HQ of the Lithuanian Air Force where they will meet with LAF leadership, familiarise with the Lithuanian Air Force and its plans for the future. Later they will go to the Aviation Museum, lay flowers at the monument for killed international war pilots, will tour Pažaislis Monastery and historical President's Palace.

Adjutant General of the Pennsylvania National Guard Maj Gen Jessica Wright wishes rapid recovery to Lithuanian peacekeepers wounded in Afghanistan

imgSeptember 23, Adjutant General of the Pennsylvania National Guard Maj Gen Jessica Wright sent a letter to the Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius and Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė in which she wishes quick recovery for the Lithuanian troops injured in and incident in Afghanistan.

 

„Please accept my concern and prayers for your 2 soldiers wounded this day in Afghanistan. The entire PA National Guard wishes them well and total recovery," the letter says.
