Amy Winehouse was a rebel from childhood, her mother Janis reveals in a new memoir, prone to cutting herself in a sign of trouble to come. 'Loving Amy became a relentless cycle of thinking I would lose her, then not losing her, waiting to lose her,' she writes. Winehouse died in July 2011 after losing her battle with substance abuse. Just two months ago, a proud new mother announced the birth of her 'little princess', as her parents excitedly flying from China to Australia to meet the baby girl. But on Wednesday, the two month old baby was frantically stabbed to death in her bassinet, allegedly by her maternal grandfather, while her 'traumatised' mother suffered defensive wound trying tried to protect her infant. Baby Qianqian 'Queenie' Xu died on Wednesday at a Brisbane hospital after a frenzied stabbing attack at her home on Wednesday, leaving her grandfather, grandmother and mother in need of surgery. The 53-year-old man has been arrested.

Throngs of Elvis fans, impersonators and lookalikes flocked to Sydney's Central station on Thursday to catch the Elvis Express to an annual festival to commemorate the king. From diamante studded boiler suits to leather capes, the revellers pulled no punches in their outfits. Parkes Elvis Festival features tribute concerts, impersonator contests, and an Elvis gospel service - but the six hour six-hour train journey is also highly anticipated.

North Korea claimed to have executed a successful hydrogen bomb explosion, triggering a 5.1 magnitude earthquake which was felt for miles, but its opponents and nuclear experts are dubious. They insist the size of the explosion and tremors that followed were far too small to have come from such a device. Hydrogen bombs can generate vast and violent amounts of energy through nuclear fission (the splitting of atoms) followed by fusion (the combining of atoms). They are hundreds of times more powerful than atom bombs, such as the ones that flattened Hiroshima and Nagasaki. North Korea said the H-bomb test elevated its 'nuclear might to the next level' and gave it with a weapon to defend against the US and its other enemies. It also claimed the bomb was miniaturised, meaning it could be carried out missiles that would pose a new threat to the United States and its regional allies. Pyongyang has developed the Taepodong-2 (top right), a long-range missile with an estimated range of around 3,700 miles. This puts it in striking distance of Japan, Australia and mainland US. The alleged H-bomb test, which comes after weeks of speculation that leader Kim Jong Un (bottom right) had illegally developed such a weapon, has been condemned by countries around the world, including its allies China and Russia.

Much-loved dog, Mila, (pictured left and right with twin Sunny) has died after eating chicken laced with rat poison and left in Sydney's popular Queens Park. Christian Acuna was walking his twin beagle-cocker spaniels in Queens Park when they wandered off and ate what looked like boiled chicken breast they found hidden in a bush. Both dogs started vomiting hours later and were rushed to the vets.

Eitam Lachover was filming a story about a company making the protective clothing at a time when Israel is facing near-daily stabbing attacks by Palestinians. But the knife penetrated the vest, lightly wounding him in the upper back. Yaniv Montakyo, a vice president at the company that makes the vest, told Israeli Channel 2 TV that he stabbed Lachover in an area of the vest where there was no protective material.

A police officer has captured on camera the incredible moment he witnessed a river flow for the first time in his life after the town had battled years of the devastating drought. Twins that were mauled by a pit bull as they tried to protect one of the women's sons are recovering at home after suffering massive injuries. Kati and Jessi Mather (left), 21, were at a park in Richmond, British Columbia last week when Kati's rottweiller-husky cross Yogi (right) turned on them. The two immediately rushed to protect Jessi's son Jayden, 3, as the dog mauled the two. Kati ended up with over 100 bites before bystanders managed to get the dog off, suffering a broken arm and detached bicep.

Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana has launched its first range of abayas and hijabs as it seeks to attract the growing market of fashion-conscious Muslim customers. The range comes in sheer georgette and satin weave charmeuse fabrics, and D&G; signature lace detailing and fruit and floral prints are also a strong presence. One floating neutral coloured abaya is heavily embellished with the intricate black lace, while another is embellished with an all over lace pattern.

Thousands of young men braved icy waters in lakes and rivers across Bulgaria to retrieve crucifixes cast on the waters by priests in celebration of Epiphany Day. Aided by a healthy gulp of plum brandy, they believe the person who retrieves the wooden cross will be healthy and freed from evil spirits all year, and in some cases a fierce battle ensues in the freezing water. They joined millions of Orthodox Christians across Europe commemorate the baptism of Jesus Christ with similar water-related activities - despite temperatures way below zero.

Procrastination peaked at businesses across Britain this afternoon as thousands of people tuned into a live feed of people trying to navigate a giant puddle (bottom right). Internet users spent two hours watching the feed, which was set up in Newcastle and posted to the live video streaming app Periscope. At its height, the number of viewers had rocketed to 20,000. And as darkness fell, pranksters were on hand to make the most of the dwindling puddle - splashing around (top right) and doing push-ups (left) in the remaining inches of water.

Swinging from trees and scampering across scrubland, these adorable baby chimpanzees (pictured) are learning basic life skills in a shelter after they were orphaned in the forests of Guinea. The animals were rescued by the Chimpanzee Conservation Centre - which serves as a sanctuary and a rehabilitation project in the West African country. The playful apes were taken-in as babies after being orphaned because of chimpanzee trafficking - usually because their mothers have been captured and sold as pets, or shot and used as bushmeat.
