Channel 5 faces Ofcom investigation after CBB star Winston McKenzie rants about gays, immigration and black politicians

Celebrity Big Brother star Winston McKenzie has sparked controversy once again after ranting about 'immigration' and 'black politicians', as it emerges Ofcom has received 244 complaints about the show.

The former UKIP candidate, 62, said on Wednesday night: 'Black politicians in this country are just out for themselves. They try to work the system. But I'm different. I don't work the system.'

He also told David Gest: 'There is a great emphasis on immigration at the moment. Now, nobody is saying we don't want it. But we need to control it more.'

His comments come as The Mirror claim Channel 5 may get into hot water with Ofcom following homophobic slurs he made on the show the day before.

TV watchdog Ofcom told MailOnline this morning: 'We have received 244 complaints [about Celebrity Big Brother]. We will assess them before deciding whether to investigate.'

MailOnline has contacted a rep for Celebrity Big Brother for comment. They refused to comment to The Mirror.

Channel 5 also declined to comment when asked by MailOnline how many complaints the network had received since the show began on Tuesday.

It is not the first time Winston has sparked controversy. In the past he has compared same-sex adoption to child abuse and, according to Following Farage - a book published last year - UKIP leader Nigel Farage is said to have received texts from Winston that complained of 'bloody queers'.

He has also previously spoken of his 'dismay' at finding out that former boxing promoter Kellie Maloney is transgender.

Winston caused offence with comments made in his entry video, where he joked about the measures he would go to in order to avoid any gay housemates.

The ex-boxer, who is reportedly being paid £60,000 to appear on Celebrity Big Brother, said: 'I could cope with a homosexual in the house. I guess I'll just have to stand with my back against a brick wall all the time.'

He certainly hit a nerve with Celebrity Big Brother viewers on Wednesday night, as fans of the show took to Twitter to air their views.

Sister Sister called him 'disgraceful,' while Jonathan Simpson called him a 'failed Croydon council candidate.'

As the crowds booed the 62-year-old, who has stood for every major political party in the UK, viewers at home took to Twitter to share their horror at the comments.

'Disgusted that #CBB2016 are going to pay a homophobe thousands of £££ for air time he certainly doesn't deserve...' one angry fan posted.

Another added: 'OH HELL NO. How could @channel5_tv even let this idiot into the house with a comment like that? Awful, and disgusting.'

One viewer commented: '#CBBWinston is everything that's wrong with this world #CBB2016'

Whilst another expressed their shock at the booking, posting: 'Disgusted at #CBBWinston for his Homophobic comment and @channel5_tv for even airing it. Feel so angry that this is happening still in 2016'.

Several viewers pondered over how the star's comments would affect his relationship with homosexual housemates, John Partridge and Christopher Maloney, as the group will be forced to live in close quarters for the remainder of the show.

Inappropriate: Before entering the house, Winston, 62, said: 'I could cope with a homosexual in the house - I guess I'll just have to stand with my back against a brick wall all the time'

Openly gay BBBOTS presenter Rylan Clark said: 'I'm already having a brick wall made for his eviction, just in case.'

'Winston, you're in the wrong show if you think you'll get away with homophobic cave man views. Cant wait to see John take him on,' one fan posted.

In 2012, while a member of UKIP, Winston sparked outrage by launching into a rant aimed at gay parents in which he said their raising of children was tantamount to 'abuse'.

He later quit the party, having received only 5.7 per cent of the votes in the Croydon North by-election, before joining the far-right English Democrats.

Winston, who was previously a boxer before later running a pub with his brothers, is now the English Democrats' candidate for London mayor.

McKenzie Bros Bar and Grill opened in July 2001 but was closed just over a year later after a police raid led to 25 people being charged with drugs and firearms offences.

Winston, who later tried out on the X-Factor in 2005, was not arrested or charged. In 2010 he also claimed to be the figurehead of a mysterious consortium hoping to hijack a bid to rescue Crystal Palace Football Club from administration. It came to nothing.

Meanwhile, in his Celebrity Big Brother appearance, viewers took exception to the star's outfit, with several taking to social media to mock the star's gaudy leopard print coat.

'Winston on celebrity big brother looks like he's turned up to a fancy dress party,' one fan joked.

Whilst one offered some advice, posting: '#CBBWinston bin that leopard print! Not a good look on you.'

But one fan praised the star for his daring choice of outfit, tweeting: 'I so want that coat #CBBWinston'

Flamboyant: Other viewers seemed more concerned with the star's outfit, with several taking to social media to mock the star's gaudy leopard print coat.
