'What makes me happy is making other people happy': Ellen DeGeneres treats guests to a steamy shirtless picture of Chris Hemsworth at the People's Choice Awards

Comedian and TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was awarded the Favourite Humanitarian Award at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.

And in the spirit of giving, the 57-year-old treated award attendees and TV viewers to a picture 'gift' of a shirtless Chris Hemsworth who happened to be sitting alongside Ellen and her partner Portia de Rossi at the awards ceremony.

'Here's the thing, awards are great but really what makes me happy is making other people happy,' the starlet said after receiving the large award.

'And tonight I want to make you happy. I bought a shirtless photo of Chris Hemsworth to share with you.'

The audience then burst out in laughter after seeing a very muscular Chris dripping wet in just a pair of black board-shorts and a necklace around his neck.

The Thor star had his head bowed down and his famous shaggy blonde locks pushed away from his face as he strutted down a path of unknown description in the snap.

She said: 'I started out as a comedian, and I wanted to make people laugh.

'I wanted to make people happy and feel good.'

She then went on to point out the oddity of winning an award for human kindness.

'It is strange to get an award for being nice and generous and kind which is what we're all supposed to do with one another,' she said. 'That's the point of being a human.'
