Our Concept
The alchemy tradition is an ancient philosophy embracing the use of profound and magical powers to create gold from base metals and to prepare the elixir of longevity. Our Alchemy occurs within the four walls of a renovated Baltimore rowhouse, resulting in modern american cuisine with myriad and unexpected cross-cultural influences. The ever-evolving menu, re-created 5 times a year to fully exploit the availability of fresh, seasonal ingredients, places equal creative emphasis on appetizers, salads, entrées and desserts. We offer a sophisticated and harmonious wine program, and house specialty drinks which are imaginative and beautiful.
Our Approach
People have said there’s a whiff of magic in the air at Alchemy. After 30 years in the food industry, Debi and I are still inspired by the opportunity to constantly create and test our avant-garde recipes for you. We are constantly learning new techniques, searching for better ingredients, and going for flavor combinations that are truly divine. We harmonize flavor, color, scent and texture to create the experience of sensory fusion: what allows people to experience food — not just taste it. Every day, we work to transform our craft of food and wine into the art of creating wonderful meals for you, our guest.
Our Setting
It was always our dream to create a beloved dining spot street-side within the hustle and bustle of an urban neighborhood. Alchemy Modern American Eatery is on “The Avenue” in Baltimore’s Hampden neighborhood. When we found this spot, we knew it was the perfect place for Alchemy. In this hundred year-old building, we created a warmly textured main dining room with exposed brick walls, custom leather settees and original works of art. The cool, blue and elegant upstairs dining room overlooks the street and holds our diminutive and lovely bar. From our front door greeters to our entire wait staff, we are passionate to provide you with attentive and knowledgeable service. As time permits, Debi and I visit each and every table, looking forward to hearing about your visit.
