Hat's a show stopper! Naomi Watts wears oversized red beanie while on a chilly New York City stroll with beau Liev Schreiber

She spent the 'perfect Aussie Christmas' in the sunshine.

But the summer holiday in Sydney is certainly over for Hollywood actress Naomi Watts and her brood, who have returned home to chilly New York City.

The 47-year-old was spotted on Wednesday with her equally famous husband, Liev Schreiber, 48, enjoying one-on-one time together in trendy Tribeca before their busy acting schedules come into effect.

The King Kong star layered up for her romantic stroll, which also included a visit to a coffee shop. 

She wore a khaki coat with fur trimming, blue jeans, grey gloves, a scarf and an oversized red beanie which certainly made her standout. 

The British-born, Australian-raised actress added a black cross-body bag and a pair of ankle boots to her laidback winter look.

Liev was equally dressed to beat the winter chill. 

Like his beautiful partner, he wore a khaki coat, off-white jeans, gloves, a patterned scarf and a black beanie.

He completed his own winter look with a pair of bulky black boots.

Naomi also took to Instagram to share a cute couple selfie from their day out.

She captioned the image which showed the rugged up acting duo smiling at the camera: 'First cold morning in NYC.' 

Before giving a shout out to the couple's favourite coffee shop: 'Grateful for Best coffee @livelaughingman #freezing [sic].'

The actors and their two sons Alexander, eight, and Samuel, seven, touched down in Sydney on December 22.

During their trip, Naomi visited her old high school in Mosman, Sydney, and posed for a fun selfie in front of the sign.

The Aussie starlet also shared a snap to her Instagram as she kicked back with her 90-year-old grandma on Boxing Day.

'Perfect Aussie #christmas and #boxingday with 90 year old grandma #goodtimes #stillgoingstrong,' she wrote in the caption. 

The famous family also attended model and philanthropist Kristy Hinze-Clark New Year's Eve party with the who's who of Australian film, TV and sport in Vaucluse.
