Sharp-suited David Beckham looks typically dapper as promotes his Haig Club Whiskey at exclusive dinner party in Shanghai

He's gone on to develop quite the entrepreneurial streak since retiring from football.

And David Beckham was on hand to promote one of his latest ventures, Haig Club Scotch Whiskey, as the distillers held a swanky dinner party in Shanghai, China, on Thursday evening.

The 40-year-old star cut a typically dapper figure at the upscale meal, where guests - who included major Chinese stars Karen Mok and Chang Chen - sipped on the opulent alcoholic beverage.

The former Manchester United star looked beyond suave as she posed inside the exclusive event in a black suit which he paired with he offset with a crisp white shirt and coordinating black tie. 

The dedicated family man and model was certainly on sartorial form as he completed the look with polished black brogues, while also donning a white pocket square for added finesse.

Sporting his standard designer stubble, he scooped his hair up into a retro quiff, which he sealed into place with wet-look gel at the bash, which was bedecked with the brand's striking purple bottles, which strongly resembled that of an aftershave.

Looking confident and cool as he promoted his investment, the Essex-born star was there without his wife, Victoria, or any of their children, who were at home in the UK.

On Tuesday his fashion designer wife praised their four-year-old daughter, Harper, on social media after she received a merit for 'excellent reading' at school. 

'Excellent reading Harper!!X Good day at school!! #proudmummy X ,' she captioned the adorable shot, which saw little Harper's hand brandished with a fun red sticker.

Say cheese! Despite possessing a superstar status in China, actor Chang Chen stopped to take a selfie with the footballing legend 

David's sojourn did however see him joined by his manager and close friend Simon Fuller.

It was announced in April 2014 that the company, Diageo, had teamed up with Beckham and music mogul Fuller to launch Haig Club – a single grain, no-age-statement Scotch whisky.

The product is created from liquid sourced from the Cameronbridge distillery and is comprised of a variety of aged whisky from three types of cask: first-fill, rejuvenated and refill Bourbon barrels.

However, it hasn't all been plain sailing for the handsome product.

Early last year the drink's TV advert, which was directed by Guy Ritchie, was investigated over - but cleared of - encouraging underage drinking.

Campaigners at Alcohol Concern argued that the former footballer would appeal to youngsters and make drinking alcohol appear essential to social success.

They pointed out that Beckham has traded heavily on his appeal to children, not least by supporting the Sainsbury’s Active Kids campaign to boost participation in sport.

Consequently, they argued that his association with the drinks brand, which is owned by drinks giant Diageo, sent the wrong message to youngsters that drinking was cool and sexy.

However, advertising watchdogs have rejected the complaint after deciding Beckham could no longer be viewed as a role model or hero for the nation’s children.
