GIRL ABOUT TOWN: Hello... I’m here to buy you dinner! Adele picked up the bill for athlete Jennifer Stoute at top London restaurant

When Adele appeared last week on James Corden’s US chat show segment Carpool Karaoke, she revealed she had paid for a stranger’s dinner at trendy Mayfair restaurant Nobu.

Now I can reveal that the stranger is something of a celebrity herself – British Olympic bronze medal-winning athlete Jennifer Stoute, who later starred as Rebel on TV show Gladiators.

Jennifer was at Nobu for her daughter Alicia’s 14th birthday, and as my picture shows the teenager couldn’t resist asking the Hello singer to pose for a snap.

‘Adele came up to say hi and I was blown over that she paid the bill,’ Jennifer tells me. ‘She said it was nothing – she simply wanted Alicia to have a special day.’

Cruel twist that ruined Rickman and Bowie show

The untimely deaths last week of pop star David Bowie and actor Alan Rickman stunned the world.

And in a cruel twist of fate, I can reveal the pair were denied the chance of working together shortly before they passed away – by overzealous US immigration officials.

Alan Rickman was due to narrate a part in Lazarus - a musical written by David Bowie

The 69-year-old star, right, was due to narrate part of Bowie’s off-Broadway musical Lazarus, which opened in November.

But officials refused to grant him a visa – even though his role would only have been recorded and then projected on to a screen.

‘He was fuming.’ says a source. In the end, Scots-born Alan Cumming – who became a US citizen in 2008 – narrated the part.
