For Hilary Duff had her faded locks died platinum blonde before opting to go lilac after spending four hours at a posh hair salon in West Hollywood on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old actress initially emerged from the Nine Zero One Hair Salon in West Hollywood sporting lighter locks.

But when she finally emerged at the end of her marathon appointment her hair was a very different colour - a multi-hued mop of purple.

When she was seen earlier the actress seemed to have stepped out to make a phone call as she had her high-tech device in hand and was clad in a black robe bearing the salon logo.

Her hair was gathered in a loose and becoming ponytail with some strands escaping along her neck.

The shade was definitely a few shades lighter than they looked the previous day on Tuesday.

On that occasion, Hilary stepped out to run some errands in Beverly Hills with her hair a mix of brown and caramel tones.

She seemed excited to be back home - until she found a parking ticket on the windshield of her car, which made her grimace ever so slightly.

Hilary, meanwhile, is mourning the sad passing of her beloved dog Beau after announcing the news on Instagram.

'It's really true that we never know what the day will bring us,' she began. 'I am shattered in a million pieces today because my baby Frenchie Beau has gone to doggy heaven this afternoon [sad face emoji].'

'I'm sure I will post way too many pictures of him this week but as of now I can't even bear to look at a photo of his little face that melted me every time. I can't fathom never holding his heavy little head in my hands with his two big eyes looking at me again'.

She concluded: 'Remember every day to be grateful for what we have that makes our hearts happy and full. My naughty boy I will miss you so. Heart. Broken.'

Hilary bolstered up and plastered on a smile to promote her TV Land series Younger on the Today show and the AOL Build Speaker Series.

The second season premiered January 13, and a week prior the show was renewed for a third season.
