THE FTSE 100 fell into bear market territory this week, meaning it was down more than 20 per cent from the heady highs of 7,123, which it reached last April. Although it has climbed back a bit since then, savers are panicking because billions of pounds in pensions and Isas is held in the stock market.
Millions of savers face pension shock in Budget: We reveal tricks to guard your nest egg from tax onslaught
We explain what is happening to pensions, who will be hit, and what can you do to mitigate the damage. Wealthy savers are being warned to overhaul their pension arrangements and bung as much into their pots as possible up to current tax limits before the Budget on 16 March. The big threat is that Chancellor George Osborne will introduce a 'flat rate' pension tax relief system - ditching the principle that everyone saves for retirement from untaxed income.

MONEY NEWS & ADVICE
What should investors do in a market meltdown? Hold your nerve, rebalance your portfolio, and watch five key indicators for signs of recovery, say experts
Investors watching markets go wild in the past few weeks will be wondering whether they can afford to brazen out further dramatic falls. A slump in oil prices below $30, mounting evidence of an economic slowdown in China, and worries about the impact of higher interest rates in the US have ravaged markets - knocking billions of pounds off the value of UK stocks. So what should investors do in this adverse climate? We round up advice from the experts.
The seven golden rules of buy-to-let: How rental property can still be a good investment if you do it properly
'The UK population is rising faster than in any other EU country. The one million home shortfall is likely to result in higher rents. This will provide opportunities for landlords,' says London estate agent Jeremy Leaf. But, given the new regulations, first-time investors must plan scrupulously. We've drawn up seven golden rules to make sure you get the best from buy-to-let.
'You need to look for the next big thing, not the thing that's big now': As she takes on estate agents, property TV star Sarah Beeny reveals her start-up secrets
TV property star Sarah Beeny has disrupted two industries - estate agencies and online dating - with the companies she has founded. Here she tells us her start-up secrets, including the single most important quality she looks for in an employee and why young businesses that put customers first can thrive.
SIMON LAMBERT: £74 a month for dodgy broadband, a phone I don't use and a large selection of bad TV... I must be mad
The art of milking customers has been skilfully demonstrated by our TV and telecoms giants. What I need to do is call up and threaten to leave unless I get a much better deal. However, the problem is that when I sit down to compare the packages different providers offer, the industry's confusion pricing nudges me into giving up before I can complete the task. Fortunately, time appears to have been called on their confusion pricing.

SMALL CAP MOVERS: Special situations remain the only real triggers for stoic investors still holding small cap oil stocks
Worldview Capital, Petroceltic's largest shareholder with 29.6%, this morning announced it was preparing a possible all cash offer for the oil and gas firm. A surge in Petroceltic's share price indicated some optimism over its current debt conundrum. Earlier this week, investors in Empyrean Energy were celebrating as the AIM oiler agreed to sell its 3% stake in Marathon Oil's operations at the Sugarloaf project for an upfront $61.5mln.

House prices in London, the South East and East Anglia are 'poorest value' in the UK, but will still rise by 5% a year for five years
House prices in London, the South East and East Anglia will rise by 5 per cent a year over the next five years, despite offering the 'poorest value for money' in the country, research suggests. Across the country, prices will rise by an average of 4.5 per cent a year until 2020, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors said. In the rental market, prices are expected to rise by just under 5 per cent a year over the next five years, RICS adds.
The dirtiest cars revealed: Study finds 95% of diesels exceed nitrogen oxides threshold - with one 15 times the legal level
Defeat devices or not, the vast majority of diesel cars emit far more than the legal limit allows. That's according to new research revealed by Which? on Wednesday. It said 38 of the 300 cars it had tested in the last three years couldn't even qualify for emissions standards set more than two decades ago.
ASK TONY: Nationwide taxed my 11-year-old grandson - and won't pay him back
When my grandson was ten, he opened a savings account with Nationwide in his own name. This was in 2014. It has made a catalogue of errors since, including opening the wrong type of account. The latest was in September, when tax was deducted from his interest. I have been fobbed off time and again with the excuse that my grandson needs to be with me for 'security reasons'. I'm not sure how an 11-year-old is supposed to sort out tax problems.
