Biggest backup ever? Shaquille O'Neal shocks neighborhood kids by being backup for cool cop who joined their game after noise complaint

  • Officer Bobby White of Gainesville, Florida was called to the scene of a 'noisy kids' complaint
  • He found some teens innocently playing hoops during the daytime
  • Instead of scolding them, he joined them
  • Video of the cop's good-hearted community policing went viral with over four million views
  • Days later, White brought his promised backup for a pickup game
  • Little did the kids - or White - know that backup would be Shaquille O'Neal

A Gainesville, Florida police officer who received kudos from all over the country for responding to a complaint about 'noisy' kids playing basketball by joining them in shooting some hoops shocked the kids by bringing backup with him for their next game - very big backup by the name of Shaquille O'Neal.

When cops got a call on January 15 that some kids were making a racket shooting hoops outside, Officer Bobby White was sent to check out the scene.

When he found some teens innocently playing ball in the street at 5pm, he decided to join them instead of scolding them.

Dashcam footage of the good-hearted cop's shining example of community policing went viral when the department posted it on their Facebook wall.

The department ended the video with a message: 'So if you call GDP to complain about kids being kids... We are going to let kids be kids. We are going to focus on the ones committing crimes. #HoopsNotCrime'

But before he left that day, Officer White promised he would return soon and bring some backup with him.

Little did the kids - or even White - know that the backup would be very heavy indeed.

Retired legend Shaq first came to the police station to surprise White - and then Shaq, White and several other officers headed for the neighborhood where the kids were playing.

'I told you I'd bring some backup,' the officer said, before Shaq stepped out of the car to the hoots and hollers of the bowled-over kids.

'Holy crap, it's you!' one little kid yelled.

O'Neal played the kids for awhile and then promised $100 to whomever could make a free throw.

Each of the kids managed to get the ball in on the first try, except for one kid, who got it in on the second try. Shaq was soon out $800.

Shaq took time to huddle with the boys and tell them that they could be anything they wanted to be so long as they respected their peers, elders, and parents

He then brought the kids in for a huddle.

'Here's the secret that will change your life,' he told them. 'Know how much money I made? $700million. I did it by listening to my peers, my mommy and daddy, and focusing on school.'

He told the kids that he grew up 'just like this' and that the kids could grow up to be whatever they wanted to be.

He had them repeat after him: 'I will become whatever I want to be; I will be a leader and not a follower; I will respect my peers and my elders and especially my parents.'

The Inside the NBA analyst told the boys he was proud of them for staying out of trouble and urged them to keep playing ball.
