She’ll never see her final masterpiece that’s less than six months away from hitting the big screen.

A new poster was released Friday for The BFG, which is based on the book by Roald Dahl and adapted for the screen by E.T. writer Melissa Mathison.

The Oscar-nominated screenwriter was reunited with director Steven Spielberg about five years ago after Dreamworks purchased the film rights to transform Roald Dahl's beloved children's book into a movie.

The classic story follows a little girl named Sophie who leads the big, friendly giant and the Queen of England on a mission to stop giants from eating children.

In the new poster, Sophie is seen standing on the toes of the 24-foot tall giant.

Mathison, whose best known for writing E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, was married to Ford for 21 years before they divorced in 2004. They have two children.

Her screenplay for The BFG came after a long hiatus from writing.

Her last projects were in the 1990s when she adapted The Indian in the Cupboard for the screen, wrote the screenplay for The Escape Artist, The Black Stallion, and Kundun.

Final project: The BFG will be Matthison's final masterpiece after she died age 65 on November 4 last year in Los Angeles after a bout with neuroendocrine cancer

Spielberg previously said: 'In more than 40 years of making movies, I have been on the producing end of a number of films for The Walt Disney Company, but never as a director.

'It is a special joy to be in the director's chair as we start The BFG, alongside my long-time friends and film collaborators Kathy Kennedy, who introduced me to this project, Frank Marshall and Melissa Mathison.

'Together with them and Disney, there are many reasons why I am so excited about this joint venture.'
