Braving the big freeze! Little Miss Sunshine Abigail Breslin jets out of LA for blizzard-hit New York

It may not have been the best time to jet off to New York where forecasts of a blizzard threatened to close the city down.

But, undaunted, that's what Little Miss Sunshine Abigail Breslin did on Friday.

The 19-year-old actress was spotted pulling her own luggage as she arrived at Los Angeles International Airport ready for her flight to the frozen East Coast.

The beautiful blonde was wrapped up warm in a chunky, knitted wool coat in dark amber with native American Indian designs in black and white.

Abigail wore it over over a grey sweatshirt and black skinny jeans that she tucked into knee-high black boots.

The Scream Queens actress left her hair to cascade over her shoulders and didn't appear to be wearing any make-up beyond some dark red lipstick.

It was in the mid-70sF when Abigail left LAX and a bone-numbing 22F when she landed in JFK five hours later, thanks to winter storm Jonas.

But the native New Yorker didn't seem to mind the drastic drop in temperature, posting a moody Instagram shot of her face on a news banner.

She captioned it: 'Hey New York. Loving this winter greeting #arcticART #snowslays #entICEing #blessednotstressed.'

Abigail, who found fame in indie hit Little Miss Sunshine when she was just six, has a busy year coming up.

Fox has picked up a second season of  Ryan Murphy's comedy/horror anthology Scream Queens in which she co-starred as Chanel #5 with Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd and Lea Michele.

She is set to star in a TV remake of 1987's hit flick Dirty Dancing for ABC.

The re-do follows the original story, centering around teenager Baby, played by Abigail, who has a summer fling with the holiday camp's dance instructor Johnny Castle.

There's no word yet on who will take the role of Johnny, the character that the late actor Patrick Swayze played.
