An upstate New York woman died Sunday, two days after she was stabbed in the throat by a stranger while working at a salon.

Jacquelyn Porreca, 32, was the only one working at Recycled Salon in Colonie outside Albany around 3pm on Friday during the attack

Police believe that the assailant who stabbed Porreca twice was looking to rob the salon, Lieutenant Robert Winn told Daily Mail Online.

The hairdresser was able to make it out into the street in the immediate aftermath of the attack, when neighbors saw her.

A passing motorist who called 911 originally believed that Porreca had been hit by a car. Others tried to stop her bleeding with a pillowcase.

Police believe that the attack occurred shortly before the victim was able to make it outside, but did not find any trace of where the assailant may have gone.

All of the money in the register at the salon, a cash only business, was gone by the time police arrived.

Authorities are still looking for possible suspects in the case, and believe that money taken may have blood on it, according to News 10.

They hope to know more about the weapon used to kill Porreca

Winn said that no suspicious cars were reported in the area that day, though the town is within easy access of Interstate 90.

The lieutenant said that his team was not sure if the suspect was local and knew Porreca or was a stranger had simply committed a random act of violence.

Investigators were unable to speak to Porreca before she was placed into a medically induced coma at Albany Medical Center on Friday.
