Liam Payne cuts a surly figure as he jets in to Los Angeles... while it's claimed he's agreed to write songs for Jennifer Lopez

Despite bandmate Louis Tomlinson welcoming his first child on Friday, and bandmate Harry Styles' birthday celebrations about to kick-off, Liam Payne cut a surly figure as he arrived in Los Angeles.

Touching down at LAX on Saturday evening, the 22-year-old pop star appeared less than happy following his transatlantic flight - wearing a sullen expression on his face.

Emerging from the arrivals terminal with a group of men, the One Direction star kept his head down as he strolled out in the balmy evening air to a waiting car.

The Wolverhampton-born singer appeared to have opted for a practical approach to travel, as he rocked an understated and comfy ensemble.

Keeping things simple Liam had donned a grey Adidas hoodie, which he teamed with a pair of faded black skinny jeans.

Adding a stylish edge to his laid-back look, the singer rounded his look off with a pair of tan leather trainers.

Sporting a black backpack, Liam appeared to be travelling relatively light for his trip to California.

Going bare-headed and showing off his fresh, new close-cropped look, Liam also flashed his latest inking - subtly showing off the large rose tattoo on his left hand.

The singer was more than happy to showcase his new body art in all its glory during his flight, as the former X Factor star uploaded a close-up snap of his new tattoo to Instagram.

Liam's arrival in Los Angeles comes amid rumours that he and American Idol judge, Jennifer Lopez, are getting set to work together.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Liam will continue his foray into publishing and song-writing by helping to pen J-Lo's comeback album.

A source revealed the duos plans, saying: 'Liam was asked round to meet Jennifer and they had a great chat about music and how they thought their styles could come together to create something she’d love. 

'It went really well so he’s now going to work his hardest to write as many tracks as possible and present them to her.'

The inside added: 'He’s determined to be the best possible songwriter he can be and is thrilled a music legend like J-Lo would want to work with him.'

The news shouldn't come as much of a surprise to Directioners, as Liam has already struck out into song-writing.

In December he took to twitter to plug Irish boyband Hometown's single, The Night We Met, which he helped to pen.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for both Liam and Jennifer, but has yet to receive any comment.
