Louis Tomlinson has confirmed the arrival of his and former fling Briana Jungwirth's baby boy.

Taking to Twitter to share the happy news with his followers on Saturday, the first-time father beamed with pride as he revealed he's 'so happy'.

'I'm pleased to say my baby son was born yesterday :) He is healthy and pretty amazing, I'm very happy!!,' he tweeted in the early hours of the morning.

Louis, 24, indicated he was relishing his new-found fatherhood as he added: 'Daddy daddy cool,' moments later.

And as if his happiness wasn't evident enough, he followed his latest comment up with three smiley faces which appeared as ':) :) :)', on his personal account.

While fellow One Direction band-member Harry Styles appeared to be congratulating his pop pal with a tweet which read: 'Flowers all round,' the other boys - Niall Horan and Liam Payne - are yet to congratulate Louis on his happy news on social media.

Just hours after news of the baby's birth was confirmed by a source to People, Louis was pictured indulging in a spot of sunglasses shopping with a female companion.

He looked pensive as he browsed the store's offerings and appeared to be wearing a hospital band on his left wrist.

The white plastic bracelet identified him as the father of Briana's son and it's believed he was at his ex's side during the birth as he was determined not to miss the newborn's first precious moments, TMZ reports.

The 23-year-old is a Los Angeles-based stylist who works in the fashion industry.

She was introduced to Louis by a mutual friend last year, with the pair pictured on a string of nights out together in May 2015.

The pretty blonde is thought to have grown up in Calabasas, California, the same exclusive neighbourhood where the Kardashians reside.

Described as 'a very private person', Briana decided to retreat from Twitter after she became a target for angry fans, following the pregnancy announcement last July.

Sources claim she only attended her first One Direction concert after the pair met and is not interested in his fame.

The pair were never in a relationship, but have remained close friends.

Briana is also said to get on very well with Louis' parents and she spent July 4th weekend hanging out with his mother Johannah and stepfather Dan after they flew to the US to meet her.

Louis has recently relocated to Los Angeles so he can make the baby his priority, with the Doncaster-born superstar buying a separate property for Briana to live in with their child.

A friend of Louis told the MailOnline the former X Factor contestant is planning to be a hands-on dad and support his ex in any way he can.

The pal said: 'Although they're not romantically involved, Louis thinks Briana is a great woman and will be a fabulous mother. Louis has been helping Briana financially and is prepared to get stuck in with all the tasks that caring for a baby demands.'

News he was expecting his first child sent shockwaves through his young fanbase when it was confirmed back in July.

At the time, the pair had been spotted on a series of nightclub dates in Los Angeles.

The MailOnline revealed exclusively last year how Louis's mother Johannah Deakin – who has seven children including Louis – met Californian stylist Briana Jungwirth after she discovered she was pregnant last summer.

At the time, Briana lived with her mother Tammi Clark and stepfather Brett Clark in Calabasas, California.

Deakin traveled with her husband, Dan, to California and both sets of parents attended an ob-gyn appointment - in which they all saw the ultrasound and heard the unborn's heartbeat for the first time - with the parents-to-be.

Since the news first broke, multiple sources have claimed the globally-renowned singer will be a 'hands-on dad' despite the fact he and Briana are no longer romantically involved with one another.

The pair were introduced through mutual friends early last year following Louis' split from his long-term girlfriend Eleanor Calder in March 2015.

'Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother. It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer,' a source told People at the time.

Louis and the pretty stylist, who is said to be 'a very private' person, were also seen leaving Snoop Dogg's CD release bash in West Hollywood a few days later holding hands in the back of their ride home.

The stylist decided to remove herself from the spotlight early on in the pregnancy after she was bombarded with social media abuse by Louis' fans.
