LUCY LIU

The new mum, 47, who is currently starring as Joan Watson in Sherlock adaptation Elementary alongside Johnny Lee Miller, is one of The X Files' most famous almuni.

But back in 1996 the then unknown actress played Ling in Hell Money, a season three episode.

The plot sees Scully and Mulder investigate the discovery of a body in a burned out funeral parlour, missing an eye and a kidney.

Scully suspects an organ harvesting ring and the investigation leads the pair to an underground lottery ring in which participants either win money or lose an organ.

They discover Hsin who is gambling his organs to raise money for treatment for his daughter Ling, played by Lucy, who is suffering from leukaemia.

The episode aired two years before the star found fame playing another woman called Ling in legal drama Ally McBeal.

She's since starred in Kill Bill, Charlie's Angels and most recently provided the voice of Master Viper in Kung Fu Panda 3.

Steal the show like Lucy Liu in a strappy red dress

Motherhood suits Lucy Liu, and it's not the only thing that does.

Appearing on Jimmy Fallon's show this week, the beauty wowed audiences with this stunning Victoria Beckham red crepe dress.

It's the perfect little number to make an impression - not only is red an attention grabbing color, this particular dress is great for many more reasons.

First of all, the asymmetric straps. A nice touch, Victoria, which really draws attention to all of the right places!

The design truly takes the need to be flattering into account, and although it's form-fitting, it's curve-defining, too.

We love the way Ms. Liu has finished off the look with a similar yet more subtle hue to her lips, but an otherwise pretty natural and fresh face to allow the dress to do all the talking.

If you can spare the funds, you can get the exact same one from Net-A-Porter.

If the idea of parting with that much has you seeing red, however, we've chosen some more affordable strappy ones on our carousel below.

JACK BLACK

Golden Globe nominated comedian Jack Black, 46, was a fresh-faced 26-year-old when he played Bart 'Zero' Liquori - the only friend of murderous loner Darin Peter Oswald who has the power to control electricity - in season three episode D.P.O.

They come to the attention of Mulder and Scully as they investigate the deaths of several young people in the same small town. Local officials think they've been struck by lightening but Ribisi is in fact the culprit.

Bart ends up being electrocuted by his friend who suspects him of revealing his secret.

Jack was in good company on screen, as Darin was played by Giovanni Ribisi - who went on to be a prolific film and TV actor.

The prominent role helped to raise Giovanni's profile, and three years later he landed a recurring part in Friends as Phoebe's brother Frank Jr and went on to marry Brit supermodel Agyness Deyn.

Roles in Avatar, Gone In 60 Seconds, Lost In Translation and Ted followed and he was also nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in My Name Is Earl.

Meanwhile Jack has also enjoyed huge worldwide success.

Just a year after his appearance on The X Files, he won roles in Mars Attacks and The Cable Guy alongside Jim Carrey.

He's since starred in School of Rock, Tropic Thunder and The Kung Fu Panda series.

FELICITY HUFFMAN

Airing in 1993, Ice is the eighth episode of season one and has a very similar plot to the cult film The Thing.

Mulder and Scully find themselves in Alaska where scientists working on an project harvesting samples of the Arctic core have killed each other.

The soon discover that one of the samples is infected by an ancient micro-organism, which causes people to lose their minds and turn murderous.

One of the team accompanying the FBI investgators on their assignment is Dr Nancy Da Silva played by Felicity Huffman, 53, - better known as Lynette Scavo from Desperate Housewives.

Before her X Files appearance Felicity was better known as a theatre actress. But throughout the Nineties she built up a profile playing a number of supporting roles on TV.

After an award winning turn as Dana Whitaker in Sports Night - a sitcom about a fictional sports news show - and a recurring role in Fraiser, she won the part of Lynette.

She was nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe this year for her current role in crime drama American Crime.

JANE LYNCH

She's better known as the terrifying tracksuit-wearing cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in Glee.

But before she joined the all-singing, all dancing cast she played a school principal in a drama of a very different kind.

Lord of the Flies is one of the later episodes of The X Files, first airing in 2001.

It sees Scully called into investigate the death of a teenage boy called Dare during the film of a Jackass style show called Dumbass.

Jane, 55, played Anne Lokensgard, a school principal and mother of a boy called Dylan who is linked to Dare's death. And her appearance in 2001 was just the start of Jane's hugely successful TV career.

Before her defining role as Sue Sylvester she acted in Mighty Wind, Friends, My Name Is Earl, NYPD Blue and Two and a Half Men to name but a few.

Her latest show Angel From Hell, in which she plays the lead role of an angel called Amy, hit the screen earlier this month.

AARON PAUL

Another of the biggest TV stars of recent years also got an early break on the small screen in The Lord Of The Flies episode.

A 22-year-old Aaron Paul played an admittedly small part as David "Winky" Winkle, a friend of Dare who dies while performing a stunt, but is subsequently found to have an infestation of flies inside his skull.

As he's quizzed by agents about the death David is attacked by blood-sucking insects who spell the word 'Dumbass' into his flesh.

Aaron, now 36, of course went on to much bigger things, starring as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad thanks to connections he made during filming.

The show's creator Vince Gilligan was a writer on The X Files, and has spoken about how his time on the show influenced his Breaking Bad scripts.

Lord Of The Flies was written by Thomas Schnauz who went on to pen some of Breaking Bad's most popular episodes.

BRYAN CRANSTON

Aaron is not the only star of Breaking Bad to appear on The X Files.

His fellow lead actor Bryan Cranston, 59, cropped up in a series six episode called Drive, set in the Nevada desert.

After a high speed car chase, police pull over driver Patrick Crump - played by Bryan - believing he's kidnapped his female passenger.

But as they push him to the ground and handcuff him, the woman starts banging her head on the car window just before it explodes.

Mulder steps in to investigate and himself ends up being kidnapped by Crump.

In the same year Bryan had a part in Saving Private Ryan and his career soon took off. Within two years he'd landed a lead part in Malcolm In The Middle before going on to play teacher-turned-drug kingpin Walter White in the hit drama.

MICHAEL BUBLE

He's best known for crooning jazzy pop hits, but back in 1996 Michael Buble played a member of a submarine crew in a two-part episode.

The plot sees Mulder and Scully investigate when a diver from a French salvage ship discovers a World War II fighter plane and is the only member of his crew not exposed to harmful levels of radiation.

Michael can be briefly seen as a crew mate in a flashback sequence in both episodes. However, his acting career was short lived as he ended up being off the set for stealing a hot dog.

A member of the crew told him he'd never work in Hollywood again, but his career very quickly took off.

Just a year later he made his first national TV appearance on the award-winning documentary Big Band Boom, and became a regular live singing guest on the Vicki Gabereau talk show. He's gone on to win multiple Grammy Awards and has sold more than 30 million records worldwide.

RYAN REYNOLDS

He's the superhero-playing husband of Blake Lively, but back when he was a teenager a rather chubby Ryan Reynolds, 39, wasn't quite such a heartthrob.

One of the Canadian actor's earliest roles was Jay 'Boom' DeBoom in season three of The X Files.

The hapless teen is one of several boys who die at the same high school, as rumours of a satanic cult sweep the locality.

It turns out that two psychically connected teenage girls are to blame, thanks to an unusual planetary alignment that gives the cosmic powers.

Soon after he managed to land a leading role in The ABC sitcom Two Guys and a Girl.

He's now a leading man with roles in romantic comedies such as The Proposal and action films The Green Lantern and new film Deadpool under his belt.

The episode sees Mulder and Scully investigate mysteries surrounding the deaths members of the Millenium Group, an organisation of retired FBI agents.

It was only her third appearance on TV, but she went on to appear in Ugly Betty and The Big Bang Theory.
