Stuck in the mud! Jeremy Clarkson whips on his wellies as he enjoys a day at the races with a female pal

He's a petrolhead who loves nothing more than flying round a track in a fast car.

But Jeremy Clarkson, 55, found a different way to fulfill his need for speed on Sunday when he attended the Heythrop Hunt Point to Point at Cocklebarrow, Gloucestershire, with a female pal.

The divisive presenter looked at home at the horse racing meet dressed in his familiar country garbs.

The former Top Gear presenter braved the January chill in a black padded gilet worn underneath a beige blazer with a silky gold lining.

He teamed the unusual combination with a pair of black jeans and wellies to help him wade through the thick mud.

Meanwhile, his pal didn't look to have as many layers on, wearing an all grey ensemble with dark green wellies.

And they looked to be having a great time as they stood chatting and laughing in the crowd, while Jeremy puffed away on a cigarette.

Point to Point meetings are a series of amateur horse races over fences held at locations across the UK.

The season runs from November through to mid-June and is a popular event for families. Sunday's event saw 152 entries over seven races.

Speaking to the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard ahead of the event, meeting secretary Christopher Marriott said: 'Delighted with both the quantity and quality of the entries.

'It should be cloudy but dry and a great family day out.'

Clarkson is currently at work on an as yet untitled television show for Amazon Prime, alongside his former Top Gear co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May.

The controversial presenter was at the centre of a media storm early last year for his involvement in a fracas with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon, which ultimately led to his dismissal.

And in a recent interview with Radio Times, his co-star May joked: 'I don’t think he was unwell or having a breakdown. He’s deranged, but that’s not the same thing. There’s nothing wrong with him.

'He’s fat, obviously, and rather ugly. But those aren’t illnesses, merely misfortunes. It’s me I worry about. I fell and broke my sternum a couple of years ago. I never believed I would be old.'
