Louis Tomlinson has been pictured the day after his son was born.

On Saturday, one day after he became a first-time father, the star was seen stepping out of a residence in Los Angeles while grappling with what appeared to be the base of a car seat.

The 24-year-old One Direction singer looked to be getting the grips of fatherhood as he carried the seat out to a car, although it's not clear whether the child was inside.

Deftly lifting the small chair in his arms, at one moment doing it with just one hand, he placed it into the back of the car.

The dark-haired British pop star cut a very casual figure, wearing a pair of black skinny jeans and a comfortable hoody while going barefoot.

His ever-growing hair was pushed over to the side, masking half of his no doubt tired face as he left a building just hours after he became a dad.

Louis was not joined by the mother of the child, his ex-fling Briana Jungwirth, on the day: neither was he accompanied by current girlfriend Danielle Campbell.

However, the 1D star was escorted by a bodyguard, who helpfully opened the car's door for Louis has he juggled with the baby in the car seat, who remained obscured and unseen.

The baby has not yet had its name revealed, neither has he been seen, but Louis has spoken out on Twitter following the birth of his son.

On Saturday - the same day he was first seen with the child - Louis posted online: 'I'm pleased to say my baby son was born yesterday :) He is healthy and pretty amazing, I'm very happy!!'

He then indicated he was relishing his new status as a parent as he added: 'Daddy daddy cool,' moments later.

And as if his happiness wasn't evident enough, he followed his latest comment up with three smiley faces which appeared as ':) :) :)', on his personal account.

Louis and his ex Briana, 23, became first-time parents on Friday and, although their child's name has yet to be revealed, there were widespread rumours they called him Sydney Rain.

Meanwhile, new reports claim that Louis nearly missed the birth of his son.

The singer's ex-fling Briana gave birth to their son on Friday January 22, but Louis reportedly had to spend most of the time sitting in his car while she was in labour, following an argument with her parents.

A source told The Sun newspaper: 'Briana's mother Tammi went berserk at him in the hospital. He spent a lot of the time she was in labour sat in his car because Tammi wouldn't let him near Briana.

'He's looked after her very well but Tammi feels it's not enough. They are trying to work out a custody deal.'

However, a representative for Louis has told MailOnline that he was most certainly present for the birth.

'This story is absolutely not true and Louis was by Briana's side the whole time in delivery room for the birth,' the spokesperson said.
