'Having to take extreme measures': Piers Morgan wears MASK in hilarious bid to prevent catching the 'lurgy' from GMB co-host Susanna Reid

He spends his mornings sat in an enviable position beside brunette beauty Susanna Reid on the Good Morning Britain sofa.

But Piers Morgan, 50, wasn't in the mood to get too close to his co-host on Monday, after she turned up for work full of cold.

Ever the cheeky chappie, Piers put on a protective mask to shield himself from Susanna's germs.

Playfully, the former CNN presenter quipped: 'Obviously professionally I'm right behind you, but personally I don't want to get it.

'Given you are now exhaling rather dramatic fumes, I'm going to have to wear one of these for the show.'

Despite revealing that she was 'breathing like Darth Vader', Susanna, 45, was still able to dish out some of the flirtatious banter the pairing are known for, hitting back: 'Will that actually stop you talking Piers?

Piers entertained his 4.8 million Twitter followers by tweeting: 'Having to take extreme measures to avoid @susannareid100 infecting me with her lurgy. @GMB.'

Meanwhile, Susanna poked fun at the former Britain's Got Talent judge through her social media account.

She tweeted: 'I'm ill & @piersmorgan is furious. Good Morning Britain! from 6am. #afc #keepsmiling :)'

The Crystal Palace fan's 'afc' hashtag was a dig at Arsenal fan Piers whose side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, preventing them from reclaiming top spot in the Premier League.

And she was clearly feeling guilty for her condition, tweeting: 'HUGE apologies for the state of my voice this morning. I am sipping hot water and confident I will be back to full health tomorrow @gmb'

She then thanked her followers for their sympathy and revealed that she was returning home to try and sleep off the illness.
