  • She still suffers nightmares and thinks about the ordeal 'every day'

A woman who suffered a violent assault at the hands of her ex-boyfriend has gone on TV to relive the horrific moment her teeth were knocked out.

Shannon Surch, 21, who revealed she had to spend £8,500 on reconstructive surgery having her front teeth replaced following her ordeal, appeared on Jeremy Kyle on Tuesday to tell how she still suffers nightmares.

She was attacked by her then-boyfriend Jamie Boughton, 32, in April 2015, and left with devastating injuries as well as a huge dental bill.

Appearing on the talk show with her mother Amanda, Shannon admitted there 'isn't a day that goes by' when she doesn't think about the attack.

Recalling the day it happened, she said: 'I froze then I ran back into the house. I went into the kitchen and he more or less cornered me in the bottom corner.

'And he swung at me once and he caught my nose and my face went really warm so I knew instantly I had a nose bleed, and then it was two direct punches to the mouth.

'I had to go to hospital, I had to have stitches in my gums and my teeth put back in.'

Shannon admitted that she still thought about the attack 'every day', adding: 'Whether it's when I'm asleep, nightmares, dreams or in the day... constantly in my mind.

She added that she had not had any help following her ordeal, despite landing the huge dental bill.

The 21-year-old also revealed that, while Jamie had never been physically violent towards her before, her mother had warned that he'd threatened to 'ruin her life'.

She explained: 'My mum told me he'd been threatening to ruin my life. The next thing I know he'd jumped over my fence and because it was a flat he flew up the stairs and ran towards me.'

Amanda broke down in tears on TV as she recalled the moment her daughter had called 'screaming down the phone saying that he'd knocked her teeth out'. When she was shown a photo of Shannon immediately after the attack, she admitted 'it breaks my heart.'

Jeremy then revealed that Shannon had since been forced to quit her job and move house.

Following the attack, Jamie was sentenced to 18 months in prison and given a three-year restraining order for putting a person in fear of violence and two counts of actual bodily harm.

However, because he spent time on remand awaiting trial he served just two months and was released in December.

At the time, Shannon, a car parts inspector, revealed her anguish at having to pay for her dental implants herself.

She said: 'It's absolutely disgusting. Jamie has completely destroyed my life. I still struggle to eat solid foods, and I have to wear dentures like an old lady.

'I lost my job because of all the time I spent in hospital, and while I'm lucky to have got a new one, my confidence is in tatters.'

She was first introduced to Jamie by his sister, Danielle Boughton, 35, who is also her best friend, in early 2015. But she soon ended the relationship after Boughton started to become jealous.

'He was constantly accusing me of sleeping with other men, plus he'd disappear for hours on end, claiming he was visiting his kids from a previous relationship,' she said.

'I wasn't going to put up with it, so I told him it was over. He got back with his ex-girlfriend, and I thought that was the end of it.'

But she said that Jamie bombarded her with pleading messages, begging her to meet up with him.

After repeatedly telling him to leave her alone, Shannon messaged his new girlfriend, asking her to tell him to delete her number.

Shortly afterwards, he sent Shannon a series of threatening messages, including: 'You're all dead' and 'It's the end of your world'.

Shannon: 'It was terrifying, but I did my best to ignore him. My mum told me he'd been round to our house demanding to see me, so I stayed with Danielle as much as I could.'

She told Jeremy that, while she was disappointed by the sentencing, she was relieved that he'd been convicted.

'I didn't get the justice that I wanted,' she said. 'But I suppose something did come out of it.'

She explained that she had decided to appear on TV 'to show that something can be done about it.'

Her mum said: 'There's still a journey to go but she's a survivor.'
