A source has exclusively revealed to MailOnline that the couple of the moment are planning a lavish affair in Packer's native Australia, with Hayman Island on the Great Barrier Reef singled out as their location of choice.

Here Daily Mail Australia takes a look at what the luxury One&Only resort - which has recently undergone an $80 million facelift - and other possible waterside locations would have to offer the high-rolling lovers for their third respective walk down the aisle.

ONE&ONLY - HAYMAN ISLAND

Along with Katy Perry and Elton John, Mariah has been a guest at exclusive Hayman Island resort One&Only in the past. It therefore wouldn't come as much of surprise if she were to settle on the five-star location that can be completely booked out for a private stay.

Up to 150 guests can be hosted at the picturesque venue that has been the backdrop to a number of weddings since reopening its doors after extensive renovations were completed in 2014.

A spokesperson for the establishment explained on Thursday that there is a function room on the extensive grounds that is regularly fitted up for wedding receptions.

Ceremonies meanwhile are often held on the expansive beaches, with chairs and an altar set up on the nearby lawn.

While the resort's spokesperson was unable to comment on whether Mariah and James had been in contact recently, a source has suggested Hayman Island is high on the couple's list of destinations.

'It's an absolutely stunning spot and they plan on using one of James' private planes to shuttle their guests in,' they said. 'It will be an amazing party.'

Along with the option of landing a water plane in the ocean surrounding the island, the location also has its own private marina for easy access via boat.

Five star cuisine, an on-island cellar and resort spa are some of the features the location boasts as well as the breath-taking natural beauty of the World Heritage listed coral reef that surrounds the island.

Rooms in the three bedroom Owner's Penthouse can cost up to $12,000 a night.

If the couple weren't to select Hayman Island as their destination of choice, there are a number of other luxury hotels that sit on the Great Barrier Reef that could ignite their interest. They could also book out an entire island in the area for between $12,000 and $23,000 a night.

QUALIA - HAMILTON ISLAND 

Neighbouring Hamilton Island rivals Hayman in its luxury status and star-pulling power after Taylor Swift, the boys from One Direction and Oprah Winfrey all chose to stay at its Qualia resort in the past 12 months.

Boasting equally stunning water views and white sand beaches, the privately owned island is arguably the most famous of the Whitsundays and even played host to James' niece Francesca Packer Barham in August.

But while sections of Qualia can be privately booked, a spokesperson has explained that weddings within the resort are somewhat of a rarity.

The establishment can only accommodate very small couple-only weddings or ceremonies with up to eight guests - all of whom must also be staying at the resort. Children are also not allowed, something which would likely be a cause for concern for Mariah and James who have five children between them, including Mariah's four-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, and James' daughters Indigo, seven, and Emmanuelle, three, and five-year-old son Jackson.

Alternatively, the nearby beach at Catseye and lookout location at the summit of One Tree Hill, are popular destinations for Hamilton island ceremonies.

Qualia itself is made up of 60 individual guest pavilions, the most expensive of which being the Beach House, which costs between AUD$5,000 and $6,000 per night during the peak holiday season in summer.

A luxury, free standing complex, the Beach House features a dining room seating 10 people with views over a private pool and the ocean, as well as a lounge room, king bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and kitchenette.

The luxury resort that dominates the tiny stretch of coastline 15.5 kilometres south of Queensland's Mission Beach sits squarely on the Great Barrier Reef and has the ability to be fully booked out for a single private function for a cost of $12,000 a night - with a five night minimum stay.

It has previously played host to an array of international celebrities whose identities a spokesperson for the location was unable to divulge as privacy is one of the reasons they choose to stay there.

On a much smaller scale to the two Whitsundays based resorts, Bedarra features eight private villas which can each accommodate a couple. 

Four private beaches provide a picturesque backdrop for sandy weddings while guests can also take a short boat-ride to surrounding islands.
