FIAN mourns death of German right to food defender Harald Rohr

FIAN International grieves for the death of its founding member Reverend Harald Rohr. Aged 75 he passed away on January 12, 2016. Harald served as treasurer on the international board of FIAN from 1986 to 1998.

Harald Rohr was a founding member of FIAN International in Heidelberg in June 1986. At the founding conference he was elected to be a member of FIAN’s International Executive Committee (IEC), and served as treasurer on this Committee from 1986 until 1998. These were the formative years of FIAN International: The International Secretariat developed in Heidelberg. The first national sections were founded.

In those formative years, the organisation moved in still uncharted human rights territory. Harald’s background with amnesty international on the one hand – and with Brot für die Welt on the other - helped him to advise FIAN International.

His pragmatic approach – based on a vast experience with all kinds of situations and on the respect he commanded throughout - helped FIAN International when it had to face political or personal conflicts.

FIAN International owes a lot to Harald. His unwavering commitment to human rights and his confidence, that justice will prevail, remain our legacy.
