'He was Mr Hamm!' Ellie Kemper on how Mad Men's Jon was her drama teacher... as they both walk the red carpet at SAGs

It was a school reunion with a difference as Mad Men's Jon Hamm and his former student Ellie Kemper walked the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday.

Both nominated for SAG awards, Ellie reflected on her days as Jon's pupil at their mutual alma mater - John Burroughs Preparatory School in Missouri.

‘I didn’t not have a crush on him but he was 15 years older and a teacher,' Ellie laughed, when asked by E!'s Giulana Rancic if she ever had a soft spot for Jon.

Then she added: 'But he wasn’t ugly.'

The two went on to co-star in 2011's Bridesmaids.

Ellie was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role in TV series The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

The 35-year-old said she had a speech prepared, but wasn't expecting to win.

Ellie was shown a flashback video of herself in her SAG-card earning role - an advert for KMart.

A spider crawled across her face as she lay asleep in a sleeping bag.

‘Guys! That’s how I earned my SAG card with the commercial,' said an enthusiastic Ellie. 'It was my mini version of The Revenant.

‘The tarantula was so large that it was like a kitten almost. It wasn’t like a spider because it was so big.’

Meanwhile Jon received a nod for his role in Mad Men, with a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.
