Orange Is The New Black star Uzo Aduba has revealed the sweet story behind her red carpet date. 

The 34-year-old actress attended the SAG Awards in LA on Saturday night with a friend called Mark, whom she's known since kindergarten. 

She took to Twitter to share snaps of the pair in high school and also in Hollywood.

'He asked me to the prom, I said yes. I asked him to SAGs, he said yes,' she explained alongside a split of the two events.

Uzo has often shared snaps of Mark on her social media accounts, describing their friendship as 'priceless'.

It was a night of big celebration for the actress. 

She accepted her second straight SAG Award for best actress in a comedy for her role as Crazy Eyes.

Her show also won the award for the most outstanding ensemble in a comedy series. 

The actress could barely contain her excitement as she stepped up to the stage to accept her best actress trophy.

Uzo managed to compose herself on stage as she thanked the show's creator Jenji Kohan 'for creating a show like this and putting it on television and making a show that reflects and represents so many people.'

She continued: 'I would like to take an opportunity to acknowledge the actors who are at home, not here in this room with us, but hoping to one day be in this room with us to continue to keep trying, to keep plugging, to keep working no matter if anybody tells you to get out of that line you're waiting in – stay in line, you have the chance, it is yours.'

Her inspirational message no doubt made her BFF Mark proud.
