Scooby-Doo who are you? DC Comics provokes online fury as they release updated spin on 1960s favorite with a tattoo-covered Fred, a hipster Shaggy and a Scooby with a bionic eye

  • DC Comics is revamping classic cartoon Scooby Doo, Where Are You?
  • Fred now has a tribal tattoo, while Scooby wears a high-tech bionic eye
  • Shaggy is unrecognizable with hipster beard, flannel shirt, sleeve tattoos
  • Fans of the original say they are 'left cold' on Facebook and Twitter

Zoinks! The classic characters from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? have undergone quite the transformation in DC Comics' latest revamp of the 1960s cartoon.

Shaggy's sparse chin hairs have transformed into a fully coiffed hipster beard.

He might as well sport a man-bun with his slicked back hair, and his baggy clothes have been traded in for a more fitted look - with a flannel shirt rolled up to reveal a tattoo sleeve.

Even Scooby Doo has gone cyberpunk, with a bionic eye and a shiny new collar in the latest version of the mystery cartoon series.

Fred, on the other hand, flaunts a beefy tribal tattoo, and his original ascot tie has been traded in for a hip bandana.

The female characters are slightly more recognizable, with Danger Prone Daphne still with her trademark red hair and green and purple garb.

Velma, known as the brains behind the group, also maintains her geeky look, although she is updated with a video game controller for the high tech revamp.

The new series, titled Scooby Apocalypse, is just the latest in DC Comics' plan to overhaul a number of classic cartoons such as The Flintstones, Jonny Quest and Space Ghost.

Fans took to social media to complain about the changes, while @Kev_Emo joked the new version failed to include the cartoon dog riding on a hoverboard

Fans of the original show, however, have taken to social media to criticize the changes.

Twitter user @twlldun, wrote: 'This is the DC comics Scooby Doo revamp. There's no point even pretending to not hate the modern world any more.'

Another social media user joked: 'Not Pictured: Scooby's riding on Hoverboards'

Austen Doyle wrote on Facebook: 'Did you really give Scooby a cybernetic eye? Really? I'm sorry. I love me some Scooby but I'm just not feeling this one...I just have to walk away when you give Scooby a cybernetic eye.'

James Tucker called it the 'last nail in the DC coffin' while others shared they wouldn't be spending their hard earned cash on DC Comics.

Fans lashed out at the decision made by DC Comics to revamp a number of classic cartoons. Other titles that are set for an update include The Flintstones, Jonny Quest and Space Ghost.
