Total transformation: Former X Factor winner Leon Jackson looks completely unrecognisable as he shows off his gym-honed body and rippling muscles

He shot to fame when he was crowned the winner of the The X Factor in 2007.

But it wasn't long until Leon Jackson faded into obscurity and he was axed by Simon Cowell's Syco record label two years later.

It has now emerged that the Scottish singer has spent the last few years hitting the gym, undergoing an incredible physical transformation as he continues to pursue a pop career.

The singer, now 27, has ditched his memorable spiky mullet in favour of a more relaxed style and now boasts flattering facial stubble.

Leon regularly treats his Instagram followers to snapshots of his bulging biceps and rippling muscles, looking a far cry from the skinny 19-year-old who won over the nation nine years ago.

Formerly of the Pete Doherty school of personal style, favouring snazzy suits and skinny ties, Leon now wears vest tops and fitted T-shirts to show off his buff body.

Now based in Los Angeles, the star is still in the music business and can be seen performing at regular gigs.

Leon was mentored by Dannii Minogue during the competition's fourth series and released a cover of Mariah and Whitney duet When You Believe as his winner's single, beating Rhydian Roberts to the title.

Reports claim it sold 40 copies a minute in Woolworths at its peak, but his follow-up track Don't Call This Love peaked at number three and debut album Right Now only made it to number four.

2014 winner Ben Haenow has become the latest reality show casualty after being dropped by Simon Cowell's record label, a mere 13 months after beating Fleur East to the winner's title.

Steve Brookstein (2004), Shayne Ward (2005), Joe McElderry (2009), Matt Cardle (2010) and James Arthur (2012) have all gone been dropped by Cowell, as has 2013 winner Sam Bailey.

However, female winners like Leona Lewis (2006) and Alexandra Burke (2008) have achieved success, while 2010 chart-toppers Little Mix are the only act to still be signed to Syco.
